High End Gaming/Editing PC

Go to solution Solved by brob,

I hate doing this but the thread disappeared from the forum due to new posts, my main concern is that the rm750 cools itself when it's at a certain load, with no nvidia card it might overheat (?) Read above post for more info, would really love some feedback before I get this thing running without the 780.

I believe like most newer psu the fan ramps up based on the load & temperature. Apparently this is too difficult a concept for marketing to get across. IOW the psu will should not burn itself out. That said, early RM models did have a problem getting the fan started properly. But that issue was resolved some time ago.

Hey guys :3 !

I'm now planning to build my first PC, it's going to be a high end gaming and editing workstation (nothing too taxing in editing)

I have decided to use the following components, price is not an issue unless I can get the same performance for less.

I'm aiming towards 2000$/2500$ MAX but I already reached 2400$ with this build (inc shipping to Qatar). Thankfully we pay no taxes at all.

Peripherals not an issue and not counted towards budget, same with monitors.

Components:

All prices from eBay from sellers who ship to Qatar, lowest price for item chosen.

looks good, I would also throw in a 1tb HDD just because they are dirt cheap and 500gb fills up suprisingly quickly, especially if its video you are editing.

I thought about that too, I have a 1TB HDD with me so I don't need to buy it.

Any other suggestions? :) I'd like to start ordering stuff by Saturday if everything looks good.

Just pointing out that I do want to keep this machine for a very (very) long time.

I'll look into that! Thanks!

Looking into it to see if I can salvage some parts for cheaper, thank you! :)

Yep, so much pain :( 300+$ wasted in shipping.

Shipping to Qatar. At least we pay pretty much 0% Tax for parts.

Hah! Seemed like a good selection of parts for me.

Damn! Is there not more local online retailers? Like Amazon?

There are but many have 1 or 2 parts, scattered around. They also have terrible customer support usually.

Checking out the suggested sites above though.

shipping is places other than the us is insane, especially i you ship across the ocean

@op i would suggest getting a 4790k and adding a a 1tb hdd.

i would not consider 750w to be enough to sli 780s so unless you are going to crossfire, i would get a 600-650w and use the extra money for your hdd or to just save

You should also get a mechanical hard drive for mass storage. SSDs fill up quickly.

If you aren't going to run another 780 in the future, so dual 780s in SLI, you can just get the RM650 or even the RM550.

Other than that, it's a great rig! If the 4790K isn't too much more expensive than the 4770K, get the 4790K. Not only it is a little bit higher clocked out of the box (it's a K CPU so it's overclockable, stock clock doesn't really matter), they fixed the crappy thermal interface used in Haswell, so that should help with temperatures when overclocking!

Thank you all for the valuable support and suggestions, I'm thankful.

I'll do the following changes, getting the 4790K instead of the 4770K and using a 1TB I already own for additional storage.

Just to showcase how expensive our regional stores are, an Asus 780 same as the one from eBay will cost me exactly 1000$ on that website :(

I will continue using eBay I guess lol.

EDIT: was able to get the 4790K for only 4$ more! :))

Thank you! Seems like gearup is a much better option than dtcae (they were demanding 1000$ for an asus 780)!

About 1000AED savings which is nice - but sacrifices the 840 Pro which I want to get.

You do not have to buy all the parts from one site. But the added performance of the Pro will not be noticeable in real world situations. It really would only make a difference if you were live streaming content from an attached device.

Thanks about the tip, found out that most parts (after adding to cart and selecting Qatar in the country option) with my default OP configuration actually was more pricy than eBay by a few tens of QRs, but closer shipping means less risk so that might be worth considering. Thank you a ton!

  • 2 weeks later...

A little bump. I'm going to get the pc ready and use it without the Nvidia card and use the igpu for a little. (Customs detained gpu temporarily). Will the RM750w have a problem with such low load until I get the nvidia?

EDIT: My bad! didn't know how to "unsolve" the topic. I'm waiting for feedback to avoid issues :(

I believe like most newer psu the fan ramps up based on the load & temperature. Apparently this is too difficult a concept for marketing to get across. IOW the psu will should not burn itself out. That said, early RM models did have a problem getting the fan started properly. But that issue was resolved some time ago.
