I've a 4+ year old Dell Studio 1558 and am looking to upgrade the HDD to a single SSD; I've been comparing different models using the website userbenchmark.com, but I'm still not really sure exactly what I should be looking for in terms of speed, reliability, etc... There seems to be amongst the benchmarks a wide variety of different consistencies that even the same models have. So does anyone have any recommendations based upon what they've tried? If possible, can you tell both some things you've liked and disliked about the current ssd you're using? I'm looking for something in the ~250 GB range, give or take a few gigs. Thanks for the assistance,

Honestly it doesn't matter too much. Just grab the cheapest one with the amount of storage you need. Some of the lower end ones don't have all nand channels populated so might be slightly slower, but really the jump in performance comes mostly from the lower latency, so don't worry too much about sequential throughput. If you want the best, get the cheapest one that comes close to 600MB/s as that's the uppernlimit for SATA. In fact, this being an old model it might even be limited to 300 MB/s, but probably not.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.
