A good OS for an old PC

Speedbird
Go to solution Solved by AnnoyedShelf,

Hello,

So my old PC has been almost completely recovered, the only problem is that it has Windows XP. As it's no longer supported, I thought that I should replace it. Should I go for Linux? Or maybe Windows 7? Or should I just stick with XP and keep my defenses running?

Most of my stuff works on Linux, but I have a few Windows games that I might want to play.

Go for linux, use WINE or PlayOnLinux to get those games working.  I reccomend Linux Mint XFCE, Linux Lite, and Manjaro, all lighweight but very customizeable.  Plus Linux Mint includes all codecs and drivers out of the box.

It has a gig of DDR1 RAM, I think it can handle Cinnamon.

I found a way to edit the registry so that it think it's POSReady, while it's just XP with SP3 somewhere.

Yes but its best to install POSReady instead of a registry hack as POSReady is slightly different to XP in which the updates could cause an issue.

If this machine is just going to be used for simple stuff then any OS Can do that stuff :)
