Alright, so this is a rather odd thread for the "planning builds" section. Rather than planning my build, I'm planning a "sacrifice"...I'll explain.

I'm about to be a college student 1400 miles away from my current home, and transporting my rig isn't a viable option. So I decided on a sort of "solution." I want to return my 780 Ti to Amazon for a reimbursement, and use that money to help me buy the new Razer Blade. That way, instead of not being able to take advantage of my $700 GPU, it's being sacrificed for a more viable solution. Now the tricky part...

Option 1: I return my 780 Ti, and use the cash for the Blade. Will it be safe to say the 880 Ti will be a moderately justifiable upgrade at this time-ish next year? By then I'll have an apartment so I could definitely have my rig there.

Option 2: Keep the 780 Ti, but not be able to take advantage of it, considering I'm 1400 miles away. Which would effectively waste it's "top-tier" time. But then buy a cheaper laptop, and have a solid rig ready for me when I return. Also, what's the best way to hibernate my rig when I'm gone?

Thanks ahead of time for the input!

Are you sure you can't bring your desktop, thing's a beast. There has to be some way.

But in the scenario you outlined, I would return the CPU and GPU so you can get a better laptop. Shitty laptops are the absolute worst. I think a G750JZ would be a better laptop though.

PC: 4770K @ 4.0 GHz --- Maximus VI Hero --- 8 GB 2133 MHz Corsair Vengeance Pro --- EVGA 780 TI Classified @ 1300 MHz --- Samsung Evo 250 GB --- Corsair RM 750 --- Corsair Carbide Air 540 --- CM Storm Rapid-I (MX Blues with PMK Evergreen Keycaps) --- Windows XP --- Razer Naga --- Custom Loop Parts: 380I, EKWB 780 Classy Waterblock and Backplate, 240mm and 360mm XT45, Swiftech MCP655, EKWB multi option reservoir, Mayhems Pastel Red, Primochill Primoflex Advanced Clear Tubing, 5 SP 120 Quiet Editions --- Mobile: Surface Pro 3 (i5 128gb) with JD40 (MX Clears) and Microsoft Sculpt Mouse --- Galaxy S6

If you're about to be a college student you better be studying and not gaming.

A healthy serving of both.

For exclusively gaming, yes it would be a better choice. But, campus is large, and classroom desks are small.

Good Point, there are no small, powerhouse laptops to my knowledge. The only thing I can think of is digital storm. They should have something for you.

Yes, I could, but...it's not something I feel comfortable about. And, desktops don't really belong in a dorm. Also, breaks, I don't want to ship it back after first semester, then ship it back to school, then back home again during summer. Insurance for sending a $1700 desktop via mail is expensive.
