Steam should-

Syntaxvgm

Incentivize developers to make games compatible with linux by taking a lower percentage of sales, say 5% less or something.
THAT would get steam OS going. It would be easy to expand the steam Linux library with this.

EDIT

I did not mean linux exclusive.

Another edit-
Stop complaining about the GPU drivers in linux. You can't incentivize AMD and NVIDIA to make better ones. The more games that run on linux and the more gamers that use it, the more attention they will pay to drivers for it.

meh. most people still don't care about Linux though. Nor to most people want to learn another OS.

But, I see your point.

Why would Valve do that (from a business perspective) when they could continue raking in a much higher percentage of countless more sales on Windows and the driver situation is still terrible on Linux from the GPU vendors?

How about give an incentive to have drivers made for Linux so graphic cards actually work to their full potential.

My drivers just didn't work... period. I was running Ubuntu and for the life of me couldn't get drivers to work on my 780. Installation would fail every time.

And that's why we haven't all converted to Linux.

I've never had issues with Linux GPU drivers. Better experience than Windows, actually.

there are open source drivers from the community. And even with AMD's official drivers, I get less issues than windows. That's more of a AMDs fault thing than a linux is better thing.

The Open Source drivers from the community can't even compete with a real driver, developed through years by the manufacturer.

Both Nvidia and AMD have horrible drivers, on some GPUs I can make things run perfectly fine, but on others it was a nightmare (including both AMD and Nvidia). Intel is not out of the party either, with the HD3000 graphics I had plenty of issues trying to game. Even if the drivers on that GPU work, the performance is no near close to windows.

Until the GPU makers don't get it going, the developers won't be motivated to bring AAA titles on Linux.

Dude, I've been gaming for years with graphics cards in and out and had no trouble. Nvidia at least provides proprietary drivers. I can't say the same for AMD though it's a possibility.

Intel graphics have always been stable with Linux. Sounds like you've had some bad luck.

From several of the GPUs I used on linux, I have a GT 430 and a HD 7750, that work perfectly, and in some games performed even better than the windows version. Both Nvidia and AMD provide proprietary drivers for Linux. Other GPUs that I tested experienced a lot of problems on games.

Intel works really good, but as the HD graphics are getting better, you can use them to game on certain games properly. With HD 4000, the games look like they were working solid, they were totally playable at low settings. However with the HD 3000 graphics, I saw a ton of people not being able to play (including me).

But this is not how it's supposed to work, all three companies making GPUs must have adequate working drivers for all their products, not just a couple of them, but all.

Let me stop you right there. I've used TONS of different gpus with linux, and never had a problem. Especially with nvidia. I've had AMD problems here and there with stability on certian cards, but the community drivers work just fine. And they perform just fine. I've never heard this complain before. Am I missing something?

Also, the larger gaming market share linux gets, the more attention AMD and NVIDIA will pay to it.

I hope they put more effort on them too.

I talk from personal experience, even getting help from much much better linux users than me, it still would have problems, ,performing bad on some games, having issues on some others, or being unstable. Apparently the thing varies according to what GPU it is.

Make bug reports if it's bad. I'm serious it helps, as there is not a large enough user base in some cases to catch everything. The OEM AMD driver for my xfire 6970ms causes artifacts around windows frequently after sleep mode. Otherwise they work ok. Only bad example I have. So I use the community ones. Or just restart the driver. The community ones almost always work. Problems are common, and commonly resolved after being reported. Thing is there are not many people running 6970ms on linux, with OEM drivers at that.

Nope, Im just a bad speller and you are going to have to just deal with that :P lol, No offense but this is not a spelling competition or a grammer class :D

But I will tell you what I will do, when I get a little free time, I will work on figuring out why spell check stopped working on LTT for me, it works fine on any other site but for some odd reason, it stopped working for me on LTT. Between work,my wife and kids I have not really had the time to figure out the problem.

LOL, yeah when spell check does work, I have to go back and almost correct everything. I wish I had not started relying on spell check so much. You know its bad, when you own wife makes fun of the way you spell lol.

I think what did it for me is I write fast and when I started college I didn't focus on spelling I just focused on getting papers done, focusing more on content than keeping up my spelling. I think in 20 years no one will be able to spell.

muh specs

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch
