I am looking for a pair of nice desktop speakers to go with my new Asus monitor I will be ordering for college. Since I am a college student, the speakers definitely have to be size appropriate and fit on a desk, as well as being compatible with a PS4. If a subwoofer is included, may possibly be able to sit it on the floor somewhere in the dorm.  I currently have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 Pros with a Sound Blaster ZxR sound card , but with me being in college, I absolutely need a pair of speakers for watching movies with friends and such. I would like to stay around the 100-150$ price range, but am possibly willing to go over dependent on the product. Any help will be much appreciated!

P.S: I will mainly be using them for heavy gaming and Netflix.

If you are going to watch movies and you want to hear the rumble and deep bass (explosions etc.) you might want to check out the Kilpsch Promedia 2.1 or the Corsair SP2500. Some say Edifier speakers are also pretty good (I don't know).

If you want high quality sound then you could go for some entry studio monitors, such as the M-Audio BX5 D2. If not those, then have a look at the M-Audio AV40 (these are not studio monitors but they are still pretty good). For the latter pair you might want to add a sub later on. Be warned though that these will not have the same wow factor for movies as the 2.1 sets.

There are of course many more options out there (many being over your budget), but these are among the most popular recommendations.

People who plug their computer keyboards into hi-fi systems aren't idiots - that would be stereotyping.

I hear Creative's Gigaworks series is pretty good if you want super compact desk speakers. T40 is $130ish at the moment, but I've definitely seen them lower.
