laptop battery is shot, can i use a portable battery bank instead?

achillesviper

i got a ibuypower 870WC and its battery wont detect because the battery has a defect. so i would need to buy a new one, its only 3800MAH and costs $299. the battery bank is 28,000mah and costs $99.00 right now. should i get the battery bank and use it as a battery? it plugs in and outputs  18.5 same as the wall charger.

What is this battery bank? That rating sounds rather exaggerated.

As a warning, I have bought the battery bank you mentioned, and it it 26000 mah at 5v, which should amount to 130wh. But in testing, it charged my 40-50wh laptop one time from dead. don't get me wrong, it should provide you the same battery life you had before, but it won't provide four times the battery life as your stock battery. Testing with video playback, it added an additional 5 hours of 1080p playback to my 4 hours of playback, so it is an excellent choice. BTW, the price fluxuates and I was able to get it for 79 USD. :)

It'll probably be ok as a short-term solution, but I would advise against this in the long term.
