Burnout paradise?

Dude, he's looking for a sim, come on...

Assetto Corsa and Project CARS are both great bets for PC, however both are not yet full releases so it's hard to say at this point. Assetto Corsa most definitely drives well, I'm yet to try Project CARS.

I play a lot of racing games and I prefer sort of a sim approach as well. Not totally simulation, but close. My favorites so far have been GRID 2 (Autosport sucks IMO) and NFS Shift 2 Unleashed, TDU2 as well, but that's not really a sim more arcade. Shift 2 I've been playing a LOT lately. It's a really fun game and it takes a long time to run out of things to do in it, as you can build up your own car with upgrades and such, and, my favorite thing about the game, all the money you earn is never lost. If you buy a car for 30 grand, spend 10 grand upgrading it, and you don't like it, you can sell it and get the exact 40 grand you spend back. So you can create the perfect car for your racing style with no financial penalty like most other games. It has to be my favorite racing game so far.

huh?

I recommended Shift 2 Unleashed. Which is an NFS game, and is a good balance between arcade and sim.

owkay, S2 is the only NFS game there is that is kinda gets away from their arcady roots, im pretty sure he's for the drive around in a city kinda NFS games, not the one decent sim-ish game they made...

Be less vague. Do you want something you need to play with a pair of pedals and a wheel. OR do you want to play a more arcade style.

Arcade: I would go Burnout Paradise, Next car game ect

SIm: LFS, Rfactor, Assetto corsa, all the sim-bin games (race 07 ect)

Hey guys! Im currently in the hunt for a racing/ driving sim. game for my laptop.

I just think S2 is a great game for many people out there who like racing games. NFS has tried to do stuff like it before like ProStreet and the original Shift, but S2 is actually a great game to me compared to them. Even if you're not into the sim part of it you can put driving settings to arcade mode for less sim-like handling and just have fun customizing cars and stuff. No other game I know of allows for buying and customizing cars with no financial penalty if you don't like what you've done. For me that's worth try the game alone.

Yeah sure NFS might not be, but Grand Turismo ? You're seriously implying that Grand Turismo isn't a racing Sim ? Direct me to you're crack dealer please, his product is far more pure than what i get.

@topic; Dirt series, Grid and Assetto Corsa are viable option's. Or you can emulate GT

If you have good wheels = Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, iRacing, RaceRoomRacing Experience (F2P)

If you only use gamepad = Grid Autosport, Dirt 3, Grid 1. Can't recommend Shift 2 because the control sucks. | Non-racing = Euro Truck Simulator 2, Spintires, Mafia 2.

If you answer these questions I can help (I am an avid sim racer):

1. Most importantly, how much realism do you want? As realistic as possible, or just a bit realistic?

2. Are you looking for online or offline racing, or both?

3. Do you have a steering wheel?

4. If yes, what model?

5. If no, would you consider getting one (and what budget)?

6. What is your laptop model/specs (if it's a laptop you may wish to consider older, less graphically taxing sims)?

7. Finally, how much do you want to spend? (Seeing as you mentioned being 'a broke teenager' :P)

  • 4 weeks later...

If you are running a wheel and want a really nice sim experience I would highly recommend Assetto Corsa. It is still early access so you wont get a full working title but because of that it is relatively cheap at the moment. I race a lot of sims and at the moment that is my favorite to drive in. For a real thrill I use iRacing but that can be very costly and very unforgiving. Project cars is a great sim too but you will have to wait till the game is out fully as entering the beta stopped ages ago.
