Need a way to control 20 fans. Not a joke.

joelthezombie15

Hi so im gonna water cool and im getting 2 quad 120 rads. and im putting fans on both sides of the rad because they are thick rads.

any way this isnt asking watercooling questions, this is for the fans,

So i have 18 fans for the rads that all need to be controlled together and i have 4 fans that need to be controlled together but separate from the other 18. Or at least they all need power.

I need to turn the fans down while i sleep so its not so annoying and while the pc is idle

my question is, how would i do this?

I Have a few ideas in mind and i also have some questions for each solution.

Custom fabricated peripheral to fan connector cables:

Would the fans turn off when i turn my computer (but not the PSU) or would i have to turn the PSU off to?

Would this even work?

Hooking them up to a fan speed controller:

Would this work?

Could i set up the 18 to one "lane" and the 4 to another?

Would it give the fans enough power?

Using a t-balancer (like linus has):

where can i get one of these?

Could i set it up to make it to where the it is controlled by time instead of temps?

Would this work?

I think the custom cables would be the best because my case is big so i could get them custom length. and is there a way to make some of these work together?

Do you have an idea?

I really need the help.

I put this in the air cooling section because i think they would know how to set up multiple fans, you can move it if you need to mods.

Again thanks.

I hook my fans on one or two or these http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l3/g/c121/s424/list/p1/b214/ModMyToys-Fan_Accessories-Multi_Fan_Ports-Page1.html

And then connect the pcb to my aquaero

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14665/ele-991/4-Pin_Power_Distribution_PCB_8xWay_Block_MMT-PCB-4-83.html?tl=c121s424b214

would a few of these work? and does this pump work with the aquaero? http://www.swiftech.com/MCP655-B.aspx

And is there a cheaper option than the aquaero?

It depends if you put a waterblock on aquaero each channel will handle 1.65a

I know the mcp655 will work put don't know about 655-b

And there's no better option than aquaero

Sorry for late reply was off

This might be the worst suggestion, but what about three or four of these 6 way splitters? I wouldn't power 6 fans from a mb header but from a fan controller yeah.

You could look at getting some of these

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=60_392

For me personally I would use this one x4

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=60_392&products_id=32844

I would recommend you have a block per 4 fans ( NOT 2 blocks each powering 8 fans), and get something like a 5 header controller, and have on block per fan header which you could use the remaining header with a 3-pin fan splitter to run other fans if need be :)

Get a fan controller with a High wattage per channel, then get 5 or 4 way fan splitters, then you can control your fans in groups, for a cheaper controller worth its weight in wattage check the fractal Adjust 108, 36W per channel should be enough for 5-10 fans per channel.

Edit: also if you go the PWM route for fans, just the Swiftech 8 way splitter, it uses the power from a molex provided by your PSU but uses a PWM header on the motherboard to control fan speed.

<p>thank you Beyond Night that is what I was looking for, PWM control Somewhere via computer or Controller, and alternate power! I wonder if this will work with a fan controller!</p>

Thats why I thought the Swiftech 8 way splitter was a good idea Joelthezombie. Its like the stuff Pbaines linked but gives a PWM line to put on a controller either the MOBO or Fan controller and offers a seperate power source. Not all Mobo connectors and fan controllers are compatible like it says on the site. Reading the White article, the Mod my toys Distriution hubs are GREAT for fans with 3 pins, but I would not use them on 4 pin fans as it will do bad things with the fan motor.  If your looking for a solution for 4 pin fans use the Swiftech.

Any controller will be fine, it is all about what you like and what your budget would be.

do you

A) Like an LCD Screen

or

B)Like no LCD Screen and just have sliding knobs, or rotating knobs

I used to use a Scythe Kaze Master Pro and that was an exceptional controller, I am now using a G-Vans Legion controller which is a lot better than the Scythe. Though these two are both LCD.

Fractal Design have bought out a new controller which has no LCD and puts out 36 watts per channel which is HEAPS
