APU or CPU & GPU

alphabeta

So in the same price range of A10 7850k is it the best choice or there is a sperated CPU and GPU that give better performance and in the same price range ?

With 8 gigs of RAM

If you looking in the tight budget aspect just get the apu.

You can get a gtx 660 for less than $200. As for CPU you can get an i3 or an fx for under 200.

G3258 or 760K paired with a R7 260x or 750 ti will be better performance for about the same amount of money.

For the price, APUs are probably the best you can get, unless you want to grab used hardware (you can get last-gen used GPUs for pretty damn cheap, and they're usually still plenty powerful)..

If you do go with an APU, you'll want to grab the highest-clocked RAM that you can get. High speed RAM can really help squeeze extra performance out of integrated GPUs..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

For the price of the 7850K you can buy an Athlon II 750K and an R7-250 and trust me it'll perform better

Price/performance in gaming is allways better with CPU+GPU. Even Linus had to come to this consense after actually making a video comparing different setups with APUs and low end CPU+GPUs. If i were you I'd get a proper system with a good CPU and look at the 2nd hand market for a GPU.

Edit:

who cares...

you could always pair apu with a gpu later on,

the difference in gaming between an i5 and an a10 apu is minute.

Here's some specs I'm planning to build myself.

Processor: A10-7850k

Mobo: A88XM-PLUS [mATX Form Factor 9.6 inch x 9.2 inch ( 24.4 cm x 23.4 cm ) ]

RAM: HyperX FURY Memory Blue - 8GB Module - DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM

HDD: Western Digital 320 GB Monitor: ASUS VS207D-P 19.5-Inch Screen LED-Lit

Case: Cool Master Elite 120 Advanced

KB/M Logitech MK120

Powersupply (If case does not come with it): EVGA 500W 80PLUS Certified ATX12V/EPS12V Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR

CPU cooler: Cooler Master GeminII M4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heat Pipes (RR-GMM4-16PK-R2)

Based on amazon prices, this is $586.77. I aim for a budget of $600 or less.

Your configuration can still be different since I'm aiming for a smaller PC.

My system: CPU: Intel i5 6500; Mobo: H110M-k; GPU: Nvidia GT 730; Memory: 16 GB; HDD: 2x 1TB HDD;

With the Pentium 3258 you have to consider that you need an expensive Z97 motherboard too. So if you're on a tight budget i would recommend a value FM2+ board and a 760K as CPU and for the GPU (if it has to be new) Anything between 250X and 265 if you can afford it. If you're willing to peek into the 2nd hand market, aim for a HD 7870 or HD 6970/50

who cares...

one of my favorites cpu gpu mix (or apu) is (today at least) the A8 6600k for the "price/performance"  ^_^

(it be cool that some one add the A8 6600k to the benchmarks list)
