The m50X are worth the difference IMO, but for the budget you can do better, a pair of DT 880 Pro maybe?

For 300$ you can something better than the M50s. What will you be using these headphones for?

M40X, but for $300 you shouldn't be looking at lowly clossed-back studio monitors.

Right now I ahve A40s. What would be better than them. I am going to be playing BF4, and BF4 ONLY! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I trip to make the fall shorter

Do you want open or closed back headphones? Do listen any music or just gaming? If you do listen to music what type of music?

Almost anything.

My personal value-for-the-price pair would be the AKG K612.

I don't care if open or closed. I will make glitchhop/techno/dubstep. I NEED really good surround so I guess it would be openback. Can't afford DAC/AMP btw.

DT990 or HD558 are good low end options. If you want to spend more the T50RP V3 from MayFlower with something like a Fiio E07K or maybe just a E6/E11 but that would be more expensive.

For the Dac you listed, I though you were a musician, as it's an expensive unit often used to record music, and work with it.

If you are not going to be listening music, and playing BF4 is your only concern, you should look for a pair of headphones with good bass. The Beyerdinamic DT 990 Pro are good at it.

It does input from USB, and it does output from analog, the sound has to get converted someway.

Bass is not that muddy thing you get on cheaper headphones, clarity is still there with the DT 990 Pro

How many ohms can the Scarlett handle do you think?

What determines how good they sound?

your ears :P

good is a relative thing, some people like bass heavy, others treble heavy and others just balanced so there is no specification on the "goodness" of headphones. That is why people often recommend for you to try out headphones before buying then since ultimately you will be deciding if they are good or not
