New gaming RiG , need advice

Hello there linustechtips community , my name is Josip , im new here and im currently in a play to get myself a new gaming PC , if possible under 1200$ and AMD based .

Current rig is a AMD Phenom II X2 which is 3.2Ghz stock and is running at 3.8Ghz now , HD5770 Sapphire edition with 512MB GDDR5 ( 890Mhz core , 1350mhz memory ) , Scythe 500W PSU , ASRock  M3A770DE MBU , 4GB RAM (1333Mhz)

Also the CPU was cooled by the stock cooler until i got the Arctic Freezer A30 for it , now under Prime95 for 1 hour temperatures dont rise above 40.C . Oh and currently there is a Western Digital 1TB drive for storage

post-96961-0-41953900-1404387863_thumb.j

Now all that aside , i did to alot of research on what should be the optimal , also not to upgrade this current system since the MBU is old and could go down with a new CPU .

So here is the list :

Case : NZXT Phantom 820 Ultra+ Tower , Black http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146097

CPU : AMD FX-8320/8350 , the / is there since i have not yet decided on what to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285&cm_re=AMD_FX-8320-_-19-113-285-_-Product /

That is the hwole build . Now talking to other people about it most fuss was about the motherboard , saying it wont handle the FX CPUs well , but frankly i do not know since i never had anything higher end than what i have now ...

All comments and help are very appriciated , i want my first proper gaming build to be awesome :D

CPU is good

Motherboard is good

PSU is COMPLETE over kill. a 500,550,600,650watt would be just fine.

CPU Cooler is fine

No need for 2133mhz RAM, 1333 or 1600mhz would honestly be fine

SSD is fine, but maybe consider adding an HDD

Get cheaper 1600/1866 ram, you don't need such a big psu just keep yours until you need more to fire in the future. Get an r9 290.

I would advise going for an Intel i5 4690K over the FX-8320/50 system. There are a few things I would change in the spec above. An ultra tower case is a bit of a waste for the components. You could get something for half the price, and then use that money to spend elsewhere in the pc. The NZXT 1000W power supply is way overkill.

Was thinking of corssfiring the GPU in the future but , point taken . So the MBU will be fine ? i dont have alot of experience as i already pointed out with high end mobos , just that it seems ok for overclocking and general CPU support

Hi Josip!

Your build looks okay, however could use some work, Would i be able to get your overall budget for this build + your location? Perhaps i could better help you that way. As it appears money is going in other directions than it needs to. Such as the 2133Mhz RAM.

Thanks!

Your motherboard is fine

For crossfire 280X then a 750W psu is enough. I would look at a cheaper case and spend the savings on getting an i5.

This is a great case, and it is way cheaper than the NZXT and it will do exactly the same job

cases are subjective, but I do agree, form comes after function

This, and i would suggest an 8320, it's better for the money.

I agree that cases are a personal thing. I think for the budget though, and components that are going in, then the NZXT is a huge chunk of the budget. The money could be spent better elsewhere.

So , a bit smaller case , maybe the Phantom 530 ? Smaller PSU at around 650W - 850W range ? Also isnt the 8320 alot worse at overclocking ? And the general reason i went with such a PSU is i planned to OC the CPU alot so i guess you need a beefy PSU for that

you could overclock the CPU, run 3-way crossfire, and oc the gpus with 1000w.

The only difference is the cpu. If you are gaming then the i5 makes the most sense. The only time I would go for an AMD cpu is if the budget didn't allow for an i5 or i7 depending on the use.

Well at least , here in Croatia , the i5 is more expensive , to the point that the compatible Mobo and CPU are really out of my reach

With you mentioning $$$ I assumed you were USA/Canada. Are you purchasing off pcpartpicker ? Or do you have another site you are buying from ?

Its actually from here : http://www.instar-informatika.hr/ croatian site in the main town Zagreb , since the PC parts store i have here is much more expensive and they do ship free from Zagreb so a little of the price is nice , i just used NewEgg ones as a reference point
