Hey there LTTers,

I'm looking at upgrading from my Logitech G300, but I don't have a long history of gaming with a mouse (only the past 11 months on this G300) and as such, have little to refine my search by.

What I do know is that aesthetics are important to me, comfort is important and durability and/or warranty is important. I've had my eye on both the Logitech G502 and SteelSeries Sensei lately, but coming from the G300 I'm not sure if the G502's ergonomics or the Sensei's size would be an issue for me. I'm also torn on the G502's aesthetics - my taste lately has been fairly reserved. I'm also working on a black and gunmetal grey colour scheme, so fitting that would be ideal.

I find the G300 quite comfortable, but I do have fairly large hands so I can only assume I could handle a larger mouse. With these things in mind, what would you all recommend between the G502 and Sensei, or something I haven't yet considered? (please no Razer mice, I don't care too much for green)

I cannot recommend the G502 enough. It has been an awesome experience. Super comfortable as well. My one complaint is that my thumb gets kinda sweaty a little on the little thumb rest thing that kind of juts out. Still, the features of this mouse are awesome, and the software that goes with it is pretty slick too.

I should be studying.

even though you said no razer mice, you did say you have a big hand and tbh the new 2014 probably would not be a bad option for you. it is larger and IMO (from my own experience) super comfy and smooth. and you say you dont like the green. you can disable the led's.

just throwin it out there... :D

I really like the Corsair Raptor M45 (use it myself), but it is a claw grip mouse if you have big hands.

I just can't make my mind up whether I like the looks or not. One minute, I'm in love, next minute it looks too flashy. It's why I like the SteelSeries mice. If you were being paid to find things wrong with it, is there anything you can come up with other than sweaty thumbs?

I'd assumed the Sensei was the more recent offering due to it being $25 more than the rival at AU retailers. Is this not the case? The Rival also looks like it has a higher arch to it than the Sensei, I'm not sure I'd like that. And I think the Sensei is sexier. Could you explain why the Rival is better than the Sensei?

Thanks, though I'm not sure a larger mouse is what I actually want, despite the size of my hands. The G300 is quite small, and I find it to be comfortable, but then before I had the G300 I was using an even smaller cheap Logitech wireless mouse with my laptop, so maybe it'd just be a matter of getting used to it. Thanks for putting it out there.

I don't even know what my grip type is, and considering the limited number of mice I've used extensively, I have no idea what I'd prefer. I don't mind the look of the M65, but the sniper button turns me off enough to not want it. Is the LED on the M45 red only? If it's customisable (preferably RGB) it might go on the shortlist.

The scroll wheel has these two extra buttons by pushing it to the side which is a weird design choice. I haven't used them yet, they are uncomfortable to try to press to be useful in-game. Although the scroll wheel has a freespin setting as well as the regular setting which is really useful when searching reddit or this website an i want to get to the bottom of the page in one motion. The color isn't that bad. I turned off the LED because it warms my palm and no one can see it with your hand on it anyways. The only other blue on the mouse is on the thumbrest thing. The included weights were a cool feature, but I find the mouse too heavy for my makeshift mousepad to bother using them. It works great without them. The software also has a mousepad optimization feature that kind of "senses" the mouse pad and optimizes the optical sensor for that surface. I didn't notice a difference after "optimizing" my surface, but the mouse already performs great. I am really happy with the purchase. I pre ordered it from Amazon. Couldn't be happier.

I should be studying.

Thanks, this really helps. I knew about all of these features from reading up on it, but it's good to see how they apply to a user in the real world. I was at like 70-30 SteelSeries to G502 but now it's probably 50-50. Hopefully someone can chime in on the SteelSeries mice, then I think I'll be ready to go.

(knowing me, I'll spend the $80 on something else before I can decide... lol)

I would pretty much recommend Steelseries Rival like Zetzet. I have used this mouse for about 3 months maybe or more.

it's for medium - larger hands, though if you have

very big hands you might have some problems with the side switches.

I have heard that the rubberized surface may wear out as time passes and some people complain about the

scroll wheel noise. But overall I think it's a good gaming mouse  (I also had G300) especially for FPS games.

It's almost pointless for me to write about the mouse, because Linus tells everything needed in his videos  ;)

So if you haven't checked it yet, go ahead! :D

(and btw I am a Steelseries fanboy so...)

There is no sniper button on this one, and the red illuminated logo can't change color, it can be turned of however (which I prefer).

Thanks for the reply. I wonder why more mice don't have multi-colour LEDs, if not RGB LEDs. The customisability is nice. Anyway, thanks again. The way this thread is going, I think I'm about to start a mouse collection... lol.

Hey, thanks for replying. Strangely enough, despite what website we're on I hadn't thought of looking for Linus reviews. It's nice to hear from someone that used the G300. Would you say the Rival is significantly better? I mean, there's nothing really *wrong* with the G300, I just want something that looks nicer and has a wider feature set (even if I don't use them :P )

btw, off topic: whenever I think of Finland, I think of this:

Well the size is pretty good for me and I think you should search for the information about the length and maybe the side keys placement? (if you're interested)

( From a local store maybe? Thats what I did, although it is pretty weird to try the mouse when it's covered in packaging plastic xD well I think that you will at least get some information about that.

Also I like more the texture(may wear out) as I pointed out it earlier.

This could be just a personal thing, but I really had some problems when I played CS:GO competitive and

I got my hands really sweaty and the G300 rubberized sides (sometimes lost my grip from the mouse, and no it didn't fly out of my hand)

didn't do quite the job they were meant to be so I think Steelseries Rival rubberized sides are doing they're job.

(Some people would like to have a "smoother" rubberized sides)

Of course I'm not saying that it's "superior" to other gaming mouse out there, just a recommendation.

It has some bad points, if we compare to the G300, for example when I try to switch the CPI from the fly sometimes I don't know which

CPI I am using. And by that I mean that in G300 you have the different lights to let you know which DPI you are using currently.

( I use 800/1000 CPI for gaming and believe it or not in some games they feel almost the same so )

( CPI = DPI , Steelseries just likes to use CPI on their software, don't know why  ) maybe for marketing?

ps: I hope I didn't confuse you ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for everyone that helped me with this. I picked up my G502 today, and so far I'm loving it. The online pictures don't do the mouse justice - in my opinion, it's truly sexy. I was already familiar with Logitech Gaming Software through my old G300, nonetheless 'tuning' the mouse and customising the settings was a breeze.

I told myself when I first saw the G502 released "I'm going to buy that mouse" - now that I have, there are zero regrets so far. I'll update this post if I think of something that bothers me.
