ASUS GTX 760 DC2 OC Review

Hi guys brining you a review of the GTX 760 from ASUS. This is their direct CU2 version (dunno why I said that since they have no other versions of this card...) that comes overclock out of the factory. When I recieved my card the specifications were as follows:

Base Clock: 1006 Mhz

Boost Clock: 1072 Mhz

Memory Clock: 1502 Mhz

Bandwith: 192.3 GB/s

d47.png

As linus does in his benchmark videos I overclocked the card as well. With this card the main problem that I ran into was the card's 'auto' boosting function. No matter what I tried the second the card boosted to any value beyond 1212 Mhz it would immediately crash the drivers etc. I tried different psu's, mobo's and cpu's but I was unable to overcome this.... I am not overly orientated with the overclocking of GPU's but I was able to achieve the following:

Base Clock: 1056 Mhz (+50 , 4.97% Increase)

Boost Clock: 1122 Mhz (+50 , 4.66% Increase)

Memory Clock: 1565 Mhz (+125 , 4.19% Increase)

Bandwith: 200.3 GB/s (4.16% Increase)

Overall about ~ 5% increase.

Computer consists of:

- i5 4670k @ 4.1 GHZ w/ 1.26 volts

- G.Skill RipJaws 16GB CL9 1600mhz overclocked to 1800mhz with same timings

- ASUS Z87m - Plus

- Samsung 840 Evo 120gb SSD

- WD 1TB Green HDD

- Cougar RS750 PSU

- BenQ GW2255 21.5' 1920 x 1080 LED Monitor

Now to the benchmarks... My library of games is not overly large however I do have a sizable amount. Every game was run in its MAXIMUM preset with ANTI ALIASING and other features similar to that all maxed out! Games were run at a resolution of 1920 x 1080

Nvidia driver: 340.43

Results:

1) Watch Dogs

Maximum: 89 FPS

Minimum: 30 FPS

Average: 47 FPS

2) Far Cry 3

Maximum: 93 FPS

Minimum: 34 FPS

Average: 45 FPS

3) Grid 2

Maximum: 94 FPS

Minimum: 42 FPS

Average: 55 FPS

4) Call Of Duty: MW3

Maximum: 112 FPS

Minimum: 54 FPS

Average: 75 FPS

5) Battlefield 3

Maximum: 73 FPS

Minimum: 43 FPS

Average: 56 FPS

6) Metro 2033

Maximum: 59 FPS

Minimum: 28 FPS

Average: 43 FPS

7) Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012, Criterion)

Maximum: 89 FPS

Minimum: 42 FPS

Average: 58 FPS

8) Sniper Elite V2

Maximum: 77 FPS

Minimum: 38 FPS

Average: 51 FPS

9) Crysis 2

Maximum: 72 FPS

Minimum: 37 FPS

Average: 49 FPS

10) Minecraft V 1.7.10 [unmodded]

Maximum: 450 FPS

Minimum: 300 FPS

Average: 385 FPS

All of the games I played were playable at all times without any problems. For some games however the most 'lag' was noticed in sections with lots of particles such as fight scenes, car crashes or any other high detail situations.

Been looking at upgrading to a pair of these from my 2x GTX 660's.  Need to check out some of the SLI reviews I suppose.  Seems like a nice card tho!

Imo it's decent for the price lacks a little in some areas but overall a very good card.

Well they do say that 2 760's have about 12% more performance than a GTX Titan  :P. Just make sure you get it from a good vendor and have your finders crossed that it OC's.

I got the same GPU as well :)

Running every game at 1080p at ultra (without AA in most cases)

Only problem is, I tried overclocking it again yesterday after not looking at it for months, and GPU Tweak displays gpu boost clock as 0, gpu stays at stock speeds.

Never had this problem before. Updated GPU tweak to the latest version, but I still have the same problem.

Do you have this problem too, or do you know a fix for me?

The overclocking problem is definitely your card.

I run +100 on the core clock and +125 on the memory with no changes to the power limits.

Runs for at least 6 hours stable in Valley, and boosts to over 1300MHz in valley while staying at 60-65C

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - CPU Cooler: Deepcool Castle 240EX - Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO

Lucky you.. In the first few days I was able to let the card boost to about 1310MHz but now its just being a pain in the ass. But I am still able to get solid performance out of it so no complaints here!

I abandoned GPU Tweak after the recent update which caused it to stop working completely. I use MSI Afterburner its about 100 times better plus it actually works.

Have the same Graphics card and i am loving it!

Yeah its a pretty sick card!

You sir won in the lucky draw of GK104s :D

EDIT: Hey since when does the card have GDDR3? Your men clock seems way off! 1502MHz??? Shouldn't it be around 5GHz?

GDDR5 can do 4 operations per clock tick, so it's an effective 4*1502 = 6008MHz

I love this GPU. I have a PNY GTX 760, which isn't the ideal manufacturer, but I got a good deal :P

It's pretty cheap for GPUs, but can run nearly any game fully-maxed @ 1080p. Sometimes, I wonder what you would need a 770/780 for  ^_^

Yeah this card is pretty beastly for 1080p. However cards like the 770 or the 780 would prolly offer more stability since the 760 tends to fluctuate more.

I'm still tempted to upgrade to a 780 so I can run more mods for Fallout New Vegas.

That's the only reason I want to upgrade

Um..wouldn't you consider getting DDR3 memory or a new CPU? That might help. No...it will help.

Oh, I'm already aware of that an should be ordering them within the next couple of weeks.

But as just an upgrade to a 780 will cost nearly as much as the other upgrades, I can hold off for a bit

Really great and detailed review. Surely this isn't the card reviews that I'd usually read about these lowend cards that doesn't really interest me but the layout and way you explained it surely catched me, thanks for the reading experience! :D

I wouldn't get the Striker, it only makes sense if you're going for a GTX 760 world record overclock on LN2.

I know the performance to price ratio isn't on point, but the way it looks makes me consider it.
