speed up bootup?

Hey guys, im new to the forum and i wonder if there is any way i can speed up the bootup time. 

My pc specs are:

 

Motherboard: Asus z87-A

CPU: Intel core i7 4770k

CPU Cooler: corsair h100i

Ram: Ballistix 16Gb 1600

HDD 1: crucial 128 gb ssd (with windows 8.1)

HDD 2: samsung 1 tb

Graphics card: asus gtx 780 OC

Psu: silver power 750w

 

the pc boots on 18 sec as it is now.

The only way I can think to speed it up is, optimize the boot order so that the SSD is first. Besides 18s is nothing to complain about haha.

Disable any items that are not needed at startup using CCleaner (I know there are other ways, but CCleaner is awesome).  Change boot priority on the BIOS to your SSD as well, it'll spend less time looking for the operating system.

At which part it is slow? During POST or while windows is loading? To make POST faster you need to disable all features and onboard devices you don't need, disable intel fast boot etc (for hdds), remove everything else than ssd from boot order. For windows basicly what @AnnoyedShelf said.

For your computer, you should be getting 6sec boot time, from the power button click sound to the desktop fully loaded.

The HDD can slow down the boot a bit due to the required spin up process, but should not be too far off.

You can find many more videos, ASRock as it's own.  That is how my Surface Pro 2 boots up as well.

 

To get these speeds you need:

 -> Update the graphics card firmware (also refereed as vBIOS), to GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) ready. Please note that if you do this, the graphic card will no longer work on old BIOS based system. That is why manufactures make it a step for you to do. Yes it is risky process, much like a BIOS update. Same precaution needs to be taken. I wish manufacture includes dual firmware chips for their recovery. or have a switch to switch between UEFI supported or BIOS supported modes. I guess they see no market for them, as most of the consumers aren't knowledge about it, similarly how NCQ on HDDs appeared, and the great majority of people left their SATA controller to IDE, disabling that feature, among other things blocking the drive from going faster. Intel integrated solution support both already.

 

 -> Disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module). This allows BIOS compatible graphics card to operated under UEFI. If this is disabled, the graphics card needs to be GOP ready, else the system won't POST.

 

 -> Motherboard set to UEFI mode

 -> SATA Controller set to AHCI mode

 -> Fast SSD

 -> Fully UEFI compatible OS (Windows 8)
