Hey,

so, I am finally planning to upgrade my rig. Most important for me is, to run GTA 5 pretty stable as soon as it'll come out.

I don't think I will be able to run GTA 5 because even GTA 4 is running "unsmooth" right now.

My current setup :

saeosbm.png

AMD Phenom 1055T 6*2,8 GHz

Sapphire AMD Radeon HD6850 1GB

4GB of RAM (Don't know the manufacturer)

BIOSTAR Blabla..

And a Samsung HDD (No SSD)

*Before you think I am dumb - I didn't build nor buy this pc - it was a present from a mate*

BUT! I don't have a money-sh*tting donkey in my cellar. So that means I want to go as good and cheap as possible.

This is what I've got right now :

I am a little bit sceptic if this build will run GTA 5.. There are many speculations about system requirements for GTA 5 but I don't trust them because the game isn't even out right now.

What do you think?

regards,

furi

Well I would say if gta 5 is anything like gta 4 was it will be horribly optimized and even the best systems will strain. I can play crysis 3 at max settings with AA turned down at 60-80fps, Metro last light maxed with AA turn to mid settings at 60fps but gta 4. Yea I'm lucky to get 40fps.

Get a little better graphics card if possible (280 or 280x)

SSD if possible (120GB) It will help a lot with GTA's ridiculous loading times and WIndows boot times

Intel i5 CPU if possible...(not totally necessary but recommend for future use in a while....

Get those thing in oder so

1.GPU First

2.SSD second

3. CPU last

Also check www.pcpartpicker.com if they have it in Germany (not sure)

RAM. I'd go for at least another 4gb of RAM.

My dad runs older CPU's as well and doesn't have much trouble if he's playing at lower settings.

Like others have said I'd try getting a 280x, or waiting for the next series of AMD cards as they're supposed to be quite good.

There is no sense in buying a newer CPU, the one that you have now is good, you won't see a big performance increase if you upgrade to i5, and buying the Athlon is even downgrading.

What case and PSU do you have right now?

Are there any informations about the release of new AMD cards? If they will come before GTA 5 launches, I'll buy one. If not, you say I should go with an 280(x)?

Which one would you recommend?

Then I'll get another 8GB of RAM and a SSD.

What would you recommend here?

What case and PSU do you have right now?

Uh.. I don't know exactly. The case is just a standard one and the PSU is a Xilence Blabla with 500 Watts I think..

There is no sure information about any new cards, probably they are going to be released this fall/Christmas. Nobody knows if it will give significant performance jump. If you resign from new CPU/MOBO you can afford an SSD, 8GB RAM and maybe a better card.

As most of you said, I don't really need a new MOBO/CPU. If you're sure that my current CPU will be enough, I will stay with it and just buy an SSD, GPU and RAM.

Otherwise.. I don't want to pay more than 500-600€ (So 700-800$) for a new rig. If you can build one in that pricerange that has some future, I may even go with this.
