So I am looking further into purchasing a 4K monitor and looking at my options.

A monitor that I found intriguing is the Philips 4K 28-Inch 288P6LJEB

It has a 10-bit TN panel. However, with my job I need decent color reproduction. Do you think this would suffice? Would it still be smarter getting a 8-bit IPS panel instead?

Also, wouldn't I need a Quadro or FirePro to take advantage of 10-bit colors? I currently have a GTX 780.

The monitor is only $600 so I REALLY want it to be good enough for me

Thanks :)

An IPS will more accurately reproduce the actual colour. You probably might notice some slight difference between 10bit over 8bit, but nothing earth-shattering.

"It's all very well saying a panel is capable of 10-bit colour depth (1.07 billion colour palette) as opposed to an 8-bit colour depth (16.7 million colours), but you need to take into account whether this is practically useable and whether you're ever going to truly use that colour depth. Apart from the requirements of your application, operating system, graphics card and software, one more pertinent limitation is from a display point of view, where there must be an interface which can support 10-bit colour depth. At the moment DisplayPort is the only option which can. It is provided here, but a full 10-bit work flow is still extremely uncommon in the current market."

one you go IPS you never go back. (proud dell U2913WM owner, after having a 27" TN panel for 3 years)

This is for sure. Also good monitors easily last a long time. I'm set with my setup until 4K reaches the price pont and quality of my PA279Q.

The Philips panel isn't native 10-bit, it's an 8-bit panel with frame rate control.  You're better off getting a native 8 or 10 bit calibrated IPS panel.  Check out the Asus PA279Q or wait for the PB279Q if you want 4k and 10-bit color accuracy.
