I saw this card (here) and was wondering if this is something worth getting. I mean, holy cow, 4 gig of memory on board, but then it only has 384 CUDA cores. I'm confused.

Is memory more important than cores or vice versa?

Cores, memory isn't all that important. You could throw 12 gigs of vram on that card and it will still run like ass.

It's a GT 640 rebrand. Whatever a GT 640 review does, this will do.

4GB GT 740 might see 750mb Vram usage, so they have tacked on 3GB ram to much for the people that see 4GB and think 'WOAHHHH'

i3-4170, H81 board, 8GB DDR3, Crucial M4, GTX 770, Xigmatek Vangaurd Case, Creative Titanium X-fi, Razer Carcharias, 500w PSU, 24" VA panel and a 42" IPS. Thinking about getting a plant.

It's good for things that use lots of VRAM, like video/photo editing, modelling, etc. but there comes a point where the program fills up the VRAM enough that the actual power of the GPU is bottlenecking. It's nice to have a 4GB version available for people who could put it to use (and there are!) but for most of us, when and if we use a GT740 we won't need more then 1GB.
