Android Studio

ajoy39

Not sure how many of you watched Google's I/O today but they are releasing an Android specific IDE called Android Studio. It's still in the early stages right now, I dowloaded version 0.1 today, but it looks nice so far.

I've been tinkering around it for a bit and it definitely looks better than Eclipse. The interface is fairly easy to use and isn't too bad in my opinion.

Make sure you have the Java SDK installed on your system and try again.

Google it. There's an issue with environment variables and Java SDK, I think. Can't remember off the top of my head how to fix it and I'm on my phone...

open the environment variables dialog and add the java install location to the "path" variable. It's listed as a known issue

Eclipse is a huge platform, which tries to do a lot of different stuff, such as being an IDE for PHP, Java, Python, etc. However IntelliJ is aimed at doing Java applications. So while Eclipse does not know itself very good and does not do one single thing very good, IntelliJ is kind of opposite and is an awesome IDE for developing Java applications. Since Android's native language is based on Java, I personally think it was a good move, to move over to IntelliJ as the official IDE for Android.
