Help with my understanding with supreme FX II

mygood friend ("Alex" there you happy i said your name...) keeps saying how great the card is blah blah blah.... but is it really that so much better then the audio on a Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming-5

 

because i have to decide between the gene VII  and the gigabyte board and a MSI matx board

please not the gene is extra $110compared to the other 2 boards

It's just their implementation of a run-of-the-mill Realtek chip. For $110 extra for the sound alone is utterly ridiculous.

There is a bunch of marketing crap that they've rolled out with Supreme FX II. Like Dark_wizzie says the end result isn't much different from other Realtek implementations - they're using the same DAC chip as everyone else.

You shouldn't pick a mobo based solely on the onboard sound.

Hey I quite like my supreme fx on my maximus vi gene  

 

But don't pay $110 just for that. It really is just normal onboard with a slightly more powerful amp. It's nothing too special. Back when I bought mine, the difference between this and a normal decent board was $40 and the ROG looked better and had more features I wanted. Also, the other matx boards at the time had questionable quality.
