I'm planning on setting up some new sshd's I purchased from Seagate in raid 1, but what I'm not sure of is how the ssd's are going to cache data from the drives in this configuration. I assume both the SSD portion of the drives and the HDD are going to be exact copies in the raid 1 array.

What do you guys think? Has anyone set up sshd's in raid 1 or 0?

but if you can afford 2 hybrid drives

would it be better to get a SSD and a normal HDD?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Oh sorry forgot to include some context! (thanks for the link)

These are going to be pure data drives and loosing the content on them would be a huge problem for me. I use a cloud based solution in case of a fire but having additional on site redundancy is something I need as well. I have a 120gb Corsair Force GT as my main os and program drive.

That brings another question to mind, if I wanted to raid 0 2 ssd's for my os/programs could I also run raid 1 at the same time for the other drives? I'm using my stock intel controller on my Z97 Sabertooth Mark 2.

I read through some of the replies and most of them don't really answer what I was looking for, the last comment was close. I really want to understand how the ssd portion of my sshd drives will act in a raid 1 array. Would they be direct mirrors of each other or would they both be able to cache data separately?

no issues with configuring 2 RAID from the onboard SATA controller

all can be done using BIOS

I will suggest getting two WD Reds instead of the Hybrid drive for RAID 1

we have no idea how RAID 1 may work on hybrid drives

no one has try that configuration

but usually hybrid drives are use as a in between for main drive when SSD is too costly for budget system and still need a lot of storage

alright thanks, I've only ever done single raid 0 arrays up until now.

I got the sshd's on sale but was eyeing the WD reds up until then. Went for the sshd's for the caching hoping to see some performance gains.

If you have the money I'd get 4 and aim for a raid 10  simply to use the drives to their fullest extent but thats just me.
