For best gaming 4960X,
For best gaming value the 4930K.
For best gaming value on a tighter budget the 4670K. (To be fair the AMD 8320 is nice. on a tighter budget if you don't want to go with Intel.)

My fave atm is my 3970X, I will always have a soft spot for my E8400 though.

The hell's a 4760K? Did we get another Haswell refresh for low power overclocking or something?

There is not much point in getting anything more than a 4790K. There aren't many games that benefit very much from multicore CPUs. If you want to do a lot of video editing and gaming I would recommend the 4390K, if you really need it. If you are just making a regular build for gaming all you really need would be an i7 or an i5.

this article sums up all the best CPU/APU based on the price point

all the point are valid

and it's a good read

IMO the best CPU is the one which performs based on price point and fit your purpose

Hey Guys :D

I'm just wondering in your opinion which cpu is the best for gaming or your favourite overall.

Thanks :)

-GruvaJag

For gaming:  i5-4670k or i5-4690k.  If you live in the U.S. you can purchase either of these processors for $190 or $200 in-store at Microcenter.  If you don't live near a Microcenter, you can use Staples.com's "Price Match" feature either by phone or live chat to get the same Microcenter price + shipping.

Articles:

Choosing a Gaming CPU <-- From 2013, but tons of relevant, useful, and important information including benchmarks.  See:  Hyperthreading doesn't help much for gaming.  You can also see that the FPS in games are the same or <%5 between the i5 and i7, even for dual GPU setups.

4670k Vs. 8350  <--- Comprehensive analysis using benchmarks from all over the web to determine benchmark results between the 8350 and i5.

Some very important questions to ask yourself are what kind of games are you going to be playing, and what is your budget.  Until we have an answer to those two questions, it is harder to give an exact answer, but for all intensive purposes, the i5 from Intel is going to be your best all-around option.
