Haters Gonna Hate

Apparently some PCMR dwellers think Linus is a nobody.

Without LTT, I don't think I would have gotten help to build a rig.  Linus always maintains integrity.  If Company A does some shady shit, Linus calls them on it.  A "nobody" he is not.  :)

I'm a PCMR subscriber, and I see those people all the time. They're either trolls or just stupid.

They make me want to ignore the subreddit, lol.

Not everybody has to like Linus. Let people have their opinions, even if we disagree. Then again calling him a nobody isn't correct no matter what.

And no one brought the question who the fuck are they that they get to refer either man by their first name alone...

What's there not to understand? It is basic courtesy. You don't just refer to someone you personal do not know with their first name alone.

You mean Linus? Of course we can... this isn't the 1800's. Everyone on this forum just says 'Linus'.

200 years of passage of time doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful. That is a stupid argument.

But it's not disrespectful to just use his first name. He's has a big internet presence with the channel LinusTechTips, I'd hazard a guess and say most people don't even know his last name.

And what is considered disrespectful changes over time, it's hardly disrespectful to use someones first name alone whether you know them or not.

Everyone calls Linus Sebastian, Linus because that's his "screen name" Name of the persona he puts out on the internet. (What? Of course the Linus you see on the screen isn't a complete accurate representation of himself in real life)

Linus Torvalds has no such persona. Plus his middle name is Benedict so you know that shit's serious.

I'm going with just stupid, one of them thinks that Linux is the most popular OS in the world, it has 1.4% market share last I looked.

I don't care what his middle name is and I don't see how it can make anything seem serious, but whatever.

My point is that it's not considered rude to talk about someone on the internet and not use their last name.

I bet those guys are stubborn older men who think older Pentiums are still good for modern gaming (like those guys in some computer repair shops who try to pass off an old ass machine as a gaming PC and are asking for some outrageous price).

That's the problem with the Internet mentality. You think you are closer to people than you actually are. It is a real psychological phenomenon that fans form a mostly one-sided connection with their Internet celebrities. In reality a fan knows (or think he knows) more about the celebrity than celebrity knows about the fan, but the fan unconsciously think their relationship is equal.

Also one more thing. Rules of Courtesy are general sets of rules. Some people may be cool with not obeying some aspects of it, but that is up to them only. Therefore you should always assume courtesy first.

Not generally older men, just those stubborn guys who aren't with the times.

I did specifically say which demographic I was talking about  :)

That subreddit is filled with egoistic little arsewipes anyway. What do you expect? Or even a better question, why even care? It's like r/atheism where "I hate God" is "I hate consoles".

Just discussing it generally.  I'm not suprised or shocked honestly.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

That is freaking glorious.

Linus's tutorials aren't for me, so i can't really say if they are relevant or helpful. But I have watched quite of few of them for some reason, and between that and his reviews and I can't say I have ever heard him say something really wrong before, and he seems to know his stuff fairly well. I cannot say that about most people on youtube reviewing hardware.

Basically Linus has never made me cringe, and that's good. Really good. Most reviews say things that are blatantly wrong. A lot. they are not always the tech experts they claim to be.

I wonder if his time at NCIX has something to do with that?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore.
