gtx 590 help

sky_scourge14

hey guys so long story short my uncle got a gtx 590 and i took it of his hands

so i have 2 questions to ask

one:

do you guys think its go on a 2560x1080 resolution even though it only has 1.5gb per gpu im planning on getting one soon

second:

is there a way i can optimize the card to make it run faster, it is not reccomened to run it oced on a stock cooler, i tried to find a water block but its impossible to find right now.

sorry for my bad grammar and spelling as well :P

1. yes

2. BULL SHIT. you can OC on anything the only difference the 590 will have is temperatures because its a duel gpu card

So do the GPU's duel to the death or something? Never heard of a duel GPU card before...

yes though i am very scared due to people saying they have burned out the card buy doing so

also i can only get around 620mhz without bumping up the voltage

also thanks for the fast reply

You will blow the circuitry overclocking the 590 on standard air.

i have heard of bad things happening with the card i guess he can slightly boost the card

like i said above i guess you could slight change the clocks but honestly gpu OCs are like cpus OCs they do very little in my opinion

Seriously? 590, 690, 7990, R295x, Titan Z, all these are dual GPU's.

I have a 7990.... I know what a Dual GPU card. No idea what a duel GPU card is.

I still have my 590 here, and many many times I also asked for help and tried by myself overclocking the card, but it just doesn't overclock...you add 20Mhz and you've got yourself a bunch of artifacts and unstable performance. I wouldn't overclock it unless you have a waterblock and know how to flash the bios to overvoltage it. But even then, you'll get at max ~700Mhz (stock is 608)

Well.. I have a 580 and only recently upgraded. I noticed my vRAM was at 1.4GB'ish+ for the games I played. That's on one single 1080p monitor, settings not maxed out. I don't think you can but I do think you can max out a single 1080p panel. The lack of vRAM will make you want to shoot yourself as you wont be able to make use of the power underneath the hood.

Might be a good idea to invest in some earplugs... :D.

For optimizations keep your drivers up to date, not sure what else to say as most people suggest not to OC it.   Now everyone imagine trying to overclock a 490 if they made one, those temps...

so far i love my 590 with my 1080p monitor but i would like to go 21:9 and ik even on 1080p i wanna commit suicide with that vram, i do get to downscale a few games such as lol and most source engine games on 1440p. but hey what can say when you get a card like that for free :P also linus showed a demo of 3x 1280x720p in surround which looks more demanding then a 21:9 for the 590

If you really need more performance, take your chances and sell the card, and invest on a 780ti. People, and even Linus, said that it wasn't much of an upgraded, but I call BS. It's still a nice card, but going to a 780 Ti gained me almost, sometimes even more, 50% improvement. Heaven 4.0 Ultra detail, Extreme tesselation 1080p = - 590 = 45 fps   - 780 Ti = 68 fps

Edit: correction

gtx 590 is much slower than the 780 ti on air but it gets quite close after water cooling it (i think :P) which i was planning on doing if i could find one but if i cant how much do the 590's sell for nowadays?
