Modmic 4.0 issues

Go to solution Solved by Verne,

Make sure you have all effects/enhancements/boosts/gains off in the sound card settings. Also, lower to volume to about 80% to see if that has any effect.

So i got myself the 4.0 and for whatever reason its not....working properly.
The person on the other end does hear me but compared to my Rog Orion Pro Headset! it´s less "clear and crispy" and this Confuses me extremely.

I got it plugged into the "sound card" that came with the Headset because the ports on my PC is occupied with my Speakers.
I'm using Skype which makes me wonder if that is the issue.
I also grabbed my Creative Omega 3D Sound card and had the same results

Unlike Logan (Tek Syndicate) i have the mic like 4-5 cm away from the mouth and having bad audio while he had it like a fair bit away and had great results.

So...is it Skype that just can´t handle the Mod mic? ooor whats going on?

Normally ill jsut plug and play and shit works.

Did you remember to point the mic opening towards your mouth? Since it is unidirectional, this does matter. I'm sorry that this is a stupid question, but I just had to ask.

Use audacity and record your voice using both microphones and see for yourself. You could also test other chat programs like Razer Comms or TS3 to see if it is a problem with Skype.

Odd, I have no problems with my Modmic 4.0 at all (running through the onboard sound of my Maximus VI Impact). It was a little bassy for my taste at first but that was easily fixed with an eq.

I tested now with on board but i have noise instead.

that or they can barley hear me.

This reminds me of the WAN show.

I think I remember Linus or someone saying that the quality is dependant on how good your sound card is, not really too sure though.

You might have a defective one which is surprising because their QC is suppose to be better now. Make sure the mic is facing the right way. It'll have a microphone symbol on the plastic near the tip of the direction that should be facing your mouth. Mine came bent the other way so I had to rebend it so it was facing the right way.

I was worried bout that.

yeah i took off that ...."pop filter" and checked, its on the correct side.

Ill play around some more with it and see if i can do something about it, its possible i just cant "drive"  the mic..which i find funny. i didn't know mics could be hard driven like headphones :D

I got mine last week and it's been exceptional for me. I've even had to turn down some of my gain since it was outputting a lot better than most headset mics I've used. Turning off the gain also helped with removing hiss and the clarity is definitely better than headsets. I've run mine through my onboard SupremeFX on the Maximus V Formula and now have it setup through my ThunderFX DAC, I also have mine roughly 4-5cm. I'm loving it so far with my HD558.

My guess is it's probably defective, and the quality I'm getting is on par with that of Logan and Linus. Maybe give Jimmy an email and see if you could get a replacement.

Goodluck I really hope you get it sorted because it has been one of the best headset mics I've used so far.

Tinkering with the settings somehow fixed it, i didn't lower the volume though. i didn't need to.

But it works now!!

Phew.

When I was playing about with mine, I found some random effect named conference mode, some sorta gain setting. Having it set to 0 magically made it spring to life, but it didn't like the setting being set to 0 and disabled. Blew my mind

  • 2 years later...

I recently got ModMic 4.0 and having issues with it as well. The mic stays muted after a few seconds hitting the mute switch. The temporary fix I've been doing is re-plugging the mic but i cannot figure out the main problem. Mic volume is at 100 (I tried 80 and still the same effect), disabled effects/enhancements off.

*Update* It auto mutes after no sound being made in the mic.

*Update update* I checked to disabled effects/enhancements again and it is fixed.

@AAJoe

Disabling special effects stopped for now but the problem resumed. I connected the mic in the front mic port and the problem still persist. Replugging the mic seems to work temporary and this is the 2nd time I bought the mic (the first mic broke because the wires came out of the mute switch).
