I've found a great fast cheap card.

But now i'm hearing all this crap about AMD

Blahblahblah bad performance in this in that

If you have an AMD card your going to get crap framerate.

You can't see this is you have an AMD Card.

And really I think its quite a mess. Nvidia is expensive but I've only heard that once. And that was in Minecraft..

(The card is the MSI R9 280)

This will be my first time building a computer.

I really only know about what goes on in the OS. What goes on inside that case is a world of new information to me.

AMD and Nvidia are generally on par with each other.

You're probably reading the drivel of the misinformed and/or fanboys.

Don't listen to people talking shit about this or that company. Both brands make great cards (I have owned cards from both), only look at benchmark results and price when making a ecision, not brands.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

the only real difference between the two companies is AMD cards tend to run a bit hotter.

In terms of performance, 2 cards in the same tier perform about the same, depending on the game. What sets apart the vendors are their features: Mantle, better OpenGL performance & Eyefinity for AMD and Shadowplay, 3D, Cuda & PhysX for nVidia. Unless you want a brand specific feature, go with the cheapest card with a 3rd party cooler between the 280 & 760.

AMD doesn't have physx, Nvidia doesn't have tressFX so that's the only thing you can't see in either technology I think. Generally speaking they're on par performance wise. AMD doesn't have shadowplay (I think they have something called Radeon Pro but I've heard it's not as good) which is slightly disappointing but AMD is considerably cheaper.

Also, type in the model of the card you bought + the word issue to see what issues people have with the card.

you can use msi afterburner and get basically the same thing as shadowplay

Does this even apply to aftermarket coolers though? When comparing the reference coolers Nvidia wins without a doubt but my friends EVGA 770 runs hotter than my Asus 7970 even though i can guarantee you if both cards had stock coolers the 770 would win.

After owning both intel/AMD/Nvidia it all comes down to price point, at the budget end AMD have the upper hand for now with GCN.

As @WoodenMarker quite rightly said, listening to fanboys is poison.

Does it record with next to no performance hit?

There is still a performance hit, Shadowplay gives the same hit as Dxtory recording to a seperate HDD, but if you have a low powered CPU, shadowplay is better.

I dont think so. I only heard such news when the new AMD cards were released.
