So with the gpu's  you don't go to like 5000mhz oc, just a little push and stability testing. But what about the cpu's ? They overclock a lot. How should I test if it's stable? I will oc with amd overdrive. If it's not stable will there be any artifacts like with the gpu?

The cpu i want to oc - amd x4 athlon 740

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

You posted 5000GHz, when really it's either 5000MHz or normally abbreviated to 5GHz, I was just joking and at that point you hadn't written what the CPU was.

If you push too much the symptoms are 1: Overheating and 2: Crashing.

Ups.. I need something solid. Would Msi kombustor help? It just uses 100% gpu. Is there a solid program that tests the cpu's stability?

Lock the voltage first at 1.5V, that's what i found recommended for most overclocks, if you want to be sure google is your friend.

Increase the clock speed with 100Mhz or something or just straight to the speed you want.

After that test it with prime95, if you think the settings are as you want it and it looks quite stable, let it run for 24hours

If it gets too hot (check it always with coretemp! especially when you are tweaking the settings) lower the voltage.

If prime95 doesn't give any errors after 24 hours with the overclock, and none of the cores got over 72*C, you can be very sure it's stable.

(run 4 threads with it, you have a 4-core cpu).

If you have a stock cooler, i won't overclock. There is a really small margin and it's possible it is getting at stock settings over 72°C.

Overheating and crashing can happen if you push it quite far, but an OC of a couple of Mhz can be unstable, but can not cause overheating or crashes.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

this but not 1.5v try 1.4 and you should run prime 95 small fft for about an hour unless you spend hours a day encoding which i doubt, watch/read any piledriver overclcoking guide, theres probably a few for the apus which are closely related to your cpu, slowly slowly catchy monkey...

fwiw aim for 4-4.4ghz or wheever you feel comfortable and google the max temps for your cpu and i hope you have aftermarket cooling

No, Kombustor is a GPU testing software.

Prime95 is a CPU testing utility, but when you use it make 100% sure you are keeping a very close eye on CPU temperatures with a program like Realtemp.

The cpu i want to oc - amd x4 athlon 740

it will only go upto 4.8ghz, because the BCLK is limited to 150. with cpu you keep going until the voltage is too high or the temps are too high. i get 4.322ghz out of mine on 1.5v.
