CPU Temperature Seems Too High

I have an AMD athlon 760k and when I'm browsing the internet hardware monitor and NZXT CAM both tell me I have a temperature of 70 degrees and it sometimes even peaks at 86 degrees. I have a coolermaster seidon 120V. I'm thinking I must have installed it wrongly or the thermal compound needs re doing and the cooler remounted. Any ideas?

Yeah, it could be that the cooler just didn't seat properly.

 

I'd advise taking it off, cleaning off the thermal paste, re-applying thermal paste then remounting the cooler.

They run pretty hot so  its possible that's probably quite normal

 

if not try reseat it with some new thermal paste

That's what I was thinking, the temperatures definitely seem off, I don't have bad airflow in my case and I've only just built my computer so it must be that.

Make sure the screws are as tight as can be, if it uses a backplate, consider adding rubber rings to the back plate for extra pressure. I did this on my h60 2013 and temps dropped around 20c.

It should be fine, just use a small amount since it does leave some residue behind.  But I would recommend on trying to get some isopropyl alcohol, highest % you can find.

Just use water from the tap, alcohol isn't needed..
