Hey. Just finished my build and ran prime95 to stress test.

When running prime95, realtemp is reporting a maximum temperature of 76 under stress, and around 30 when idle. Is this fine?

I have a i5 4670k processor, with a dark rock pro 3 cooler, a fractal design r4 case with 2 front intakes, bottom intake and rear exhaust.

Cheers.

80-85c or less is preferred

your idle\load temps are very nice and appropriate for a 24\7 OC

Yes, that is normal but less than 80C is liked I would recommend opening the vents on the top of the case.

Why? It's cool enough and the vents keep it quiet/dust out

I downloaded OCCT as i've heard of it before. Not completely sure if I;m using properly, but I'm running it as an infinite test, and I'm getting a maximum of only 68C with this program :o

Are you running linpack?

Error: 410

The extra passive airflow wouldn't hurt. I guess since he has a Dark Rock Pro 3 his system should be relatively quite unless he has a R9 290X with a stock cooler.. I guess it would make it easier for dust to get in.

My system is very quiet, I have an msi twin frozr nvidia gtx 770. I was also running the front intakes at 7v during the prime95 test, so switching it up to 12v may make me lose a few degrees. If/when I overclock, I'll probably add an exhaust or 2 at the top. but for now, I'll leave it.

Use Aida, IBT, or OCCT, not prime95.

<80c is fine.

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is the best benchmark/test for intel CPUs

It also doesn't put unreasonable stress designed to make the CPU overheat, like some other benchmarks do.

Sounds normal to me if you haven't done any OC yet. Prime95 raises voltage too much on default settings resulting higher temps than you should be getting. You have good cooler and good airflow going on. To answer about optimal temp, that would be under 60C when gaming, under 40C when idle.
