Logitech Z-5500 (Worth it or not)

Raudi_

So I'm looking at replacing the Logitech Z506 5.1 surround system I have now due to my front Left and Rear left speaker starting to go out on me.

I had a friend recommend this to me
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002WPSBC/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=

Is there others like it that are worth the money? My budget is about $1500 for audio.

Room space I have to work with is a 9x9.

It's not worth $1500, but the Z5500 is alot better then the newer Z506 that replaced it.

That is the only reason why it's so exspisive, nothing else. When the Z5500 came out it was orgenally piced as the same as the Z506.

Yeah my Z506 system has done well the time I have had it and its time to change it out.

At this point I'm looking at anything as far as Audio

If you are willing to think about droping $1500 on a speaker set, have you ever thought about peacing your own home theater system together? Just asking, not being a smart ass. after reading it over ,thats how I would take my comment, but thats not how it was intended.

You are picking a $355 system with a $1500 budget? If you're serious about home theater I'd skip Logitech altogether, especially with that kind of budget. Replaced my satallite speakers on Z2300 with two krk Rokit g6 and the sound is already better (and looks more boss to boot). And those Rokits were like $150 (shipped) each too. I should probably let somebody else answer, but Logitech is not the answer if you're looking for a higher budget theater system, ever.

The best place is newegg to be honest

For an example, this is what you could get for $1500

http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx?submit=ChangeItem

It's just an example, you can mix match and buy what ever brand/s you want, but this will sound better then any PC speaker system you will find.

P.S. Then buy all the cables from Monoprice :D qulity cables for dirt cheap :D

I don't like Newegg. With Amazon you can get Prime shipping or free Super Saver shipping, plus Amazon has third party sellers that can sell things used, refurb, etc at low prices.

Are large, floorstanding speakers the solution though? I think a larger speaker is placed further away and can bring about a better soundstage or even positional audio but I think you take a hit in terms of sound detail compared to a near-field. But a near-field is not exactly 'home theater'-esque. So maybe for an authentic home theater system, large speakers are the way to go. I'd check with more people and other forums before seriously purchasing. Also with speakers, the placement of them relative to your room is HUGE. If you're going to pay 1000+ on speakers you damned well better get the positioning down instead of just winging it. By postioning I mean a bit more than just the placement of a standard 2.1 system, the sound waves interact with the walls and ceiling of your room.

The bass for example, can almost double depending on where you head is in the room. Of course it varies depending on the type of room, like shape and size and any acoustic treatment some enthusiasts have.

The recommended OCN audio products page has people answering questions.

I agree with the last part of your stament about "check with more people and other forums before seriously purchasing." as i am just one voice :)

I do have one thing to add though, i own the Z-5500 and alot more PC speakers, i switched for a 5.2 home theater system. I can tell you there is quit a deffrance when you compare the two, the sound is much clear, ass rubling bass( not that foot pounding bass) and if you set up the speakers right you get a great amersive sound were you can hear every note, and or sound. It does all depend on the space you have though.

I was still editing my post, lol.

Right now I run z2300 sub with two Krk Rokit G6s and Sennheiser HD 800, both with O2/Dac. The bass is much less muffled now because the KrKs are doing most of the bass work.

Have you ever played a Youtube video with the Sub on and the satellite speakers off on Logitechs?

IT'S HORRBLE. For kicks and giggles I did the same with my Sennheiser HD800s. I know, obvious price difference but it just shows how muffled the Logitech subs are. Maybe in gaming we're too busy to focus on the sound THAT much, but if we're going down the route of 300+ and now $1000+ audio solutions, it's our duty to be nitpicky and to pay attention to the audio.

Hey Human, I own the z-5500.

One thing I cannot understand, is HOW THE F are they priced so damn high !?!?!?

I got my own setup at about 300$ brand new, back in the day.

One thing I can say for sure, the are POWERFUL. any volume higher that 7/20 will start getting things falling off shelves. The amount and power of the bass is just great.

But, the satellites, are its weak point. You will never get Crystal Clear sound from those speakers. LOTS of Lows, LOTS of Mediums, and a "just good" amount of highs.

After hearing how other sets perform, I can say that you will never experience that crystal clear magic that other systems can give you.

In other words, with the z5500 , you get a crazy power/dollar ratio. ( at least this is what i got, i dont know why the price has gone to the skies)

If you really can afford up to 1500$ for audio setup, I would recommend you building / buying a home theater system.

If you don't know where to start from, and you simply dont have time to do all the research needed to build one, there are always brands like Bose, Pioneer, Sony etc..

I would start with Pioneer myself

With RAGE n FLAME we proceed to the battle, MOBA fellas
