Hard Drive w/ OS already on it

So I'm going to be building my first PC I was wondering if I can recycle a hard drive with an OS already on it like from a previous PC, and use it with this new PC build? Thank you in advance forum!

Might not work since you most likely be using different components, and thus need different drivers.
