You don't need more than a 4670K for gaming.

It will have the same performance as a 4670K at three times the price also the only reason you ever should go 2011 is if you need more cores/RAM for VMs or video editing and want to OC and still have VT-d/VT-x.

I dont know then... maybe a 290x lightning and 4790k? for some reason, 4 cores and 8 threads seems kind of "bad" to me. 290 and 4790k?

You'll gain nothing in games with an i7. If you're only gaming, then an i5 is much better value for money.

You only need a 4930K or 4960X for computing tasks and video rendering. Spend that money on a second 290x instead.

You ask for help and then don't listen to it?

There are almost no games that use hyper threading, and those that do gain a very small amount of performance from it. Even Sandy Bridge i5s are still getting the same performance as Haswell i7s in games. The 4670k/4690k will do fine for a pretty long time.

4930k/4790k and "value for money" can't co-exist in the same sentence. I would be looking at AMD CPUs if you truly want value for money.

The i5 only has 4 cores, no hyperthreading. The cores are powerful enough to run any game with no bottlenecking. There is no point in going for an i7 unless you are doing some hardcore video rendering that uses ALL DA CORES.

The 4930k/4790k is definitely not value for money.

im not sure of the i5's performance though... with an i7 3770k at 4.2 GHZ and a 290 overclocked linus got around 50 FPS maxed out on FC 3 and crysis 3.. Also, If i ever want to go 4-way crossfire I dont think the i5 will do well (i doubt ill ever do, but you never know)

In which case, I'd definitely go for it.

Do want you want OP. You asked for advice and we gave you it. Now if you don't want to follow it and instead waste a couple extra hundreds of dollars on a CPU that will not perform any better for gaming, then go for it.

You're running 1080p currently. What are you planning to upgrade to? 1440p? 3 way SLI/Xfire really isn't needed.

I'm pretty sure you will never find them for the same price.

of course im not going to run 3 cards at 1080p... i plan to buy the LG monitor (i dont remember its name) the 34'' one.... the resolution of that is around 3560x1440 (IF i remember correctly)

Why would you want to 3way CrossFireX considering that you are using a single 1080p monitor? You don't get much more performance after 2way, and 3way for the environment you are describing is simply overkill and a waste of power and money.

The CPU does NOT limit your fps past a certain point. Plus sli/crossife does not communicate through the CPU so there is no reason why you would need a more powerful CPU for triple/quad cards.

The i5 is just as good as the i7 for gaming. the graphics card is what dictates your performance.

Yes but the CPU doesn't have as many PCI lanes available. 40 compared to I think 16 on the 1150.

If he's considering tri sli then a 4820k might make more sense.

You can. I have. You simply have to know where to look, or have connections. Like I said we don't know his full situation.
