Blackscreens during normal use

Go to solution Solved by OddOod,

Welcome to the forums!
You've done a LOT of solid troubleshooting. At this point my guess would be a flakey old PSU sometimes browning out the system, windows having a conniption, or a dying GPU. Assuming you've already done SFC and DISM, it wouldn't hurt to also do chkdisk and memtest86.
There is a corner case where disabling C States in BIOS might help. It did fix my absolutely haunted rig.

Ever since early march I've been having an issue where my pc will randomly blackscreen and crash with a few notable weird things: Sometimes everything on my pc will continue to work (I could hear my game and voicechat even though I couldn't do anything), a full blackscreen where I can't hear or see anything, a screen freeze and a blackscreen where it only occasionally plays the sounds it's supposed to. During all of these weird crashes the only thing I can do it power the pc down and restart it.
Additionally, sometimes it'll crash right after a previous crash apon booting.

Ive tried a lot of stuff from a person who knows a bit more than me, run memory testers and checked gpu and it all came up clear. Also reinstalled drivers with a DDU.
Im not too intune with this whole thing so if anything's missing from the specs just tell me.

Windows 11 Home
ROG CROSSHAIR VIII IMPACT | Bios version 5302 (3/10/25, this seemed to be the latest when updating it)
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
2x Ripjaw V Series 16gb DDR4
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
Samsung SSD 870 EVO 500GB (This is my windows container)
Samsung SSD 980 500GB
Corsair SF600 PSU

Yeah I've done all this stuff, forgot to mention it but I also reinstalled drivers with DDU. Gonna add it to the original thread though.

It could be power related, did you reseat and replug everything around the gpu carefully (also psu side) ?

I've had the situation where inverting the 2 pcie power connectors helped.

Finally, how are your temps under load ? (average, hotspot, Vram with HWiNFO64)

I only took a cursory look inside, everything seemed in order but I could go through and make sure everything is nice in there. I don't remember what the exact temps were but they were all safe. I'll have to check properly once there's proper sunlight out though.
Just editing cause I found my temps after 5 minutes of furmark, gonna spoil it since the image is nice and long.

Perhaps you can try that RTX 2070 in someone's else pc? Ask a friend if you can come over with it for testing.

Not easily but doable if I have the chance to I'll do it. The time to crash is usually hours if it doesn't go right away and is usually once a day unless it starts chain crashing for whatever reason.

Did you just use DDU or do a fresh Windows install with all drivers new?

DDU isn't God Mode, I frankly won't use it over redoing the machine.

I didn't do a full windows reinstall but was given the advice to do a DDU with new drivers.

It's the common advice but it's not always as good as people want to think.  It doesn't work 100% and could be missing a little piece of code that's messing you up.

Memtest is what I did to test, I had a friend who's good at this stuff so he told me what to run and for how long. The #1 guess is dying gpu, the psu should be fine at least for now. If I'm reading right the C-states turn off the idle/power saving modes?
Either way, I'll look into both just wanted to shoot back a reply.
Just dropping a quick edit, the disc has been checked.
