Okay, my question is,

Are you ever biased towards people who try to help you depending on their age?

An example would be if someone helped you about a problem in your computer, and they were 10-13. Another person also had posted, they were 15+.

Which would you listen to first? Even if the latter barely knew anything compared to the first?

Feel free to comment and share your opinions

IF POSSIBLE, Try to share it with others, I'd like to get a superpoll going.

Really though I wouldn't listen to either. I'd do all the troubleshooting I can myself first and it more likely than not turns out fine. As long as I can find someone who has the same or similar problem on the net a fix should be there.

It's complicated. I try not to be. But too often I find 12 year olds who think that they are tech geniuses, but can't tell you what a floppy drive is. That said, I have met enough extremely tech savvy 12 year olds that I'm over it now.

On the other hand, I also see a lot of 15 year olds with the mindset of "I'm an adult and I know what I'm talking about." (haven't found many here though)

In any case it is irrelevant to me, nobody helps me with PC stuff because I don't ask, I research it myself.

Personally, no. I grew up wanting to learn a ton about computers, and ended up working at a micro center at 13-14, where I was criticized a ton, even when doing something as simple as grabbing the USB from the drawer behind the counter to run a virus scan on Mr. Mid-30s who had to ask if I knew what I was doing.

But even before then, I had been on forums and such, helping with tech issues/troubleshooting, and helping out in person with (usually) family. Most viewed my opinion as disparage to others, except when online with my age listed as 20+. So I can definitely say from experience, personally, that I've seen plenty of bias with it. But again personally, I don't have a bias, simply because I know how it goes.

Currently 17, applied at Frys Electronics recently. First thing the guy asked me; "Aren't you a bit young to have had experience in the tech field?"

Bleh.

I really wish that we'd just make organic hardware already, that grows and adapts to the demands it needs to meet. That way, grannies' computers can be floppy sacks of organicness and the 12 year old Minecrafters will look like the guys that only do bicep curls, and the nerdy programmers will finally have justice, with their body-builder rigs that skipped leg day.

Nah I rarely if ever ask for help. I mostly want personal opinions, so I can make my own decisions based on those.

I would agree with that, although, I used it as an example, my main point is which would you listen to first in any case?

Well I'd judge them the same, I'm the kind of person who'd analyze both of their proposed fixes and go with which ever one made more sense to me first instead of picking who to listen to by age.

Haha I know what you mean, except I was around 19 at the time... I found Frys to be a fun place to work at. My problem was along the lines I looked younger than I really was. =/

If anyone says no, they are a blatant lier and a neo-liberal retard. Bias isn't good or bad, bias perspective is simply the perspective in which things are seen, it is neither good nor bad.

I never said nor agreed that it is bad. I simply wondered what people thought.

Yeah, I had applied before that previously (ended up getting accepted, then had to decline the job due to moving and such, didn't want to take a 2 hour drive to work) with longer hair, goatee, and proper clothes. No questions, but I was 16 at the time. My recent application, I'm DSC'd up, with a haircut, and woke up late and had to go into the interview with a blank grey shirt and blue jeans. I looked just under 20 when I was 16, look ~16 now lmao.
