A few folks have asked about 3D Printers, and some forum members recently had a spirited conversation about ecosystems, company policies, ethics, etc across various brands.

I know that there aren't many 3D Printing topics but I do think that as it becomes more mainstream now that printers are quite affordable and easy to "just print" with... we'll get more and more people with them and since this is a highly tech oriented and populated forum...

People can discuss settings, tweaks (cuz we tweak shit here), upcoming products, etc etc etc.  I pesonally would love to be able to ask questions here rather than Bambu forums, for example.  I mean I am already sick of talking about RAM pricing!

Maybe under a Hobby titled forum?

If not, no problem.

i'd be down, although i do see how it's sort of stealing half of the traffic from the hobby electronics section.

on that note... i'd be down for some community collective mindmelding when it comes to 3D printing stuff. we have a need for a "PSU tier list" style thread for 3D printers.

3D printing tends to fit fairly well in the Hobby Electronics subforum, and there haven't been enough topics to justify splitting it out further.

How about renaming Hobby Electronics or giving it a description to make it more obvious that maker threads go there?

Any suggestions on wording?

Keep it as Hobby Electronics and add a description to it like other subs have.

3d Printing, HAM radio, Home Automation, Vintage Electronic Repairs, etc..

It should be something silly that still gets the point across. Maybe:

Build a robot that can 3D print some Arduinos then bake them into a Pi.

HAM radio

Not poo-pooing it because they were here before and will be here after…but is there really such a thriving HAM scene that the LTT forum isn’t catering to?

When I think of the median HAM radio enthusiast I think of a 40-70 year old man who uses windows XP to run their SDR-integrated software. Not non-techy, just in a different way

You would be surprised. There are quite a few licensed operators on the forums.
