Wouldn't a crash of a global currency be devestating to the world almost like the situation in some parts of Europe right now but on a HUGE scale?

I have no clue how Global Economy works so I can be totally wrong.

it would make more physical sense, but countries periodically devalue there currency to be competitive i.e. with one currency the fastest country to get wealthiest will stay the weathest country

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

But what would the "dollar" of this currency be worth if countries have different values for different things. In Sweden it might cost a $1.50 for a bottle of water but in Swaziland it may cost $30, economy doesn't work like that and it's best we have different currency's. If one countries economy suddenly inflates then that would cost the whole world, especially if it was a country that has a high GDP.

Terrible terrible idea, a major screwup of any kind be it a bank or the government would cause a huge f**k up in economies all over the world. The use of different currencies in the first place is to dictate and control inflation, what may cost $1.00 in America (Coke comes to mind) can cost $10.00 elsewhere, vice versa.

You can tell that the article is old when he says "The success of the euro demonstrates that currency unification can work and may even have certain economic benefits.".

The world economy is almost like what my old Social Studies teacher used to say about Democracy "Democracy is not that good but it's the best we've got"

that the euro is failing has nothing to do with the idea itself. Many southeurope countries don't give a shit about der taxes. want to stop working with 50 and get pension.

Example: a household in Germany has around 50k € wealth in Greece 100k € and in Cyprus 250k € wealth. and in the end europe has to bailout a country because the population won't pay taxes.

Ofc it's different in different parts of Europe, I was just pointing out that it's not that successful over all. Even if Sweden wasn't hit that bad I could still clearly see that my Funds and Stocks dropped significantly when other countries economy went down the drain.(both when the US dollar crashed and the Euro)

Money doesn't represent actual commodities, in fact it usually represents debt created by central banks that far exceeds the value of the commodities at their disposal.

Welcome to Capitalism,

I definitely agree with a monetary reform, the non-intrinsic system we use today is doomed and in my opinion definitely destined for a complete break down, but it will take a complete reform in political philosophy for it to work and I can't see that happening any time soon.

It would be a bad idea and also having the same value, what about poor African countries?

Also look at the mess the Euro Zone is in, single currency isn't just to blame but it's one of the main reasons why it's in the mess it's in right now.

What about NO currency at all?

They would always be a currency, what ever you trade with would be currency

If everyone trades with horse crap, plastic buttons or whatever would then become a currency :)
