I'm about to build a new pc but I don't know if I should purchase a legit windows key from microsoft for the reliability or if I should purchase a key from a third party seller.

If I should purchase a key from a third party seller which sellers are the most reliable?

You should buy a single (1) Windows Home (or Pro, if you need Pro features) from Microsoft, or one of their authorized resellers like NewEgg, Canada Computers, or Memory Express. I like buying directly from Microsoft because I can order it as a USB, giving me a permanent way to reinstall聽that聽version of Windows again in the future without having to create my own USB. (I have my own USB installers, but it's nice to have this as an emergency backup.)

My favorite reason for buying a retail key is that you can activate retail keys on as many systems as you want over your lifetime, so long as the key is only ever active on a single system at a time. This means you'll have a key that follows you for life, or for as long as Microsoft allows people to continue upgrading to new versions of Windows without paying an upgrade fee.

Safest? Microsoft.
