I have a truenas scale deployment at home and have run into a bottleneck of not being able to allocate the GPU to anything, it just needs it to have spice available on VM's and research shows this is a common issue.  Firstly are there any workarounds for this? I want to use the gpu for Plex transcoding.  But how difficult would it be to take my VM's and data to a different OS?  What would I switch to?  I'm finding that bashing my head on a keyboard for untold amounts of time to get my VM's working properly is only met with an innate unfamiliarity with the distro when I go back to work on it again.  So I really don't want to relearn and redo everything I've already done.

What hardware do you have?

For VMs, it doesn't look like there is a true Backup tool, so just get the VM images from ZFS, and move them to the new host. You can probably move to something like Proxmox pretty easily as the code for vms is basically the same.

I dont know what you mean by not being able to allocate gpu to anything. I am using latest truenas release. I use my 5700Gs iGPU for jellyfin, and a 4060 for ollama. Both in docker. Literally havent done anything other than setup docker containers and used their default values for gpu allocation.
