Hi guys my system is currently a 5900x with 32gb of ddr4 ram with a Rtx 3080.

I was looking to upgrade so I ordered a 5090, now i’m worried I might be CPU bottlenecked, I play at 1440p ultra wide and like to max out the graphics settings whet possible but iv heard this situation can still lead to a bottleneck.

Any advice?

In some games you might be a bit CPU limited but at 1440 ultrawide its not something I would worry too much about.

If you are chasing max performance then you would need a new CPU.

Will you be bottlenecked by the CPU at 1440p - absolutely. What it means in general terms - a maxed-out native smooth maxed-out 1440p at 144Hz.

Might as well get a decent 4k at a comparable fraction of the budget. Or a top-outed 144hz wide monitor to at least get all-the-otherwise unachieaveable(in your scenario) maxed-out 1440p experience. at 144hz

Most of the reason I upgraded was Vram on my 3080, it’s still decent performance wise but the 10gb of VRAm causes a few issues on some modern games. If I can get over 120 gps i’m happy.

I have a 1440p ultra QD Oled monitor which is 165hz. So I believe that should be enough.

At 1440p ultrawide you will definitely be more GPU limited than even on normal 1440p so a 5900x will still be very good.

I mean, CPU bottlenecking isn't dangerous and doesn't cause any damage so just try your system with the 5090 and see if you are happy.

If not, you know what to do 🙂

I have seen my VRAM on my 4080 go up to 12GB in some games at 1440p.

Gratz on a soon-arriving visual clarity and fidelity to daily life experience.

Don't think too much about it becoming your grey daily routine and the price of the next dose to repeat the same levels of awe? (totally not jealousy, strictly highly sympathetic response)

Yeah iv been out of the Pc gaming world for about 2 years just doing constantly back to back exams for my accountancy exams so I thought i’d treat myself now because I could never afford the “best gaming GPU” when I was younger. Obviously that bar has moved a lot, it was about £600 when I was younger now it’s 3x that, haha.

Honestly i’m super grateful to be able to buy it.

Don't worry, the honeymoon period is loooong. Plus, when you'll eventually swap your main guts, the 5090 would be even better:D

I would go one tier down for the GPU, but if you already have the 5090, then just crank up the pretty stuff in games or play at 4k. The CPU can be overclocked as well for a bit of extra performance.

Gaming With a 4:3 CRT

System specs below

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X with a Noctua NH-U9S cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus M (Because it was cheap)
RAM: 32GB (4 x 8GB) Corsair Vengance LPX 3200Mhz CL16
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC Blower Card
HDD: 7200RPM TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB, External HDD: 5400RPM 2TB WD My Passport
SSD: 1tb Samsung 970 evo m.2 nvme
PSU: Corsair CX650M
Displays: ViewSonic VA2012WB LCD 1680x1050p @ 75Hz
Gateway VX920 CRT: 1600x1200@75Hz, 1200x900@100Hz, 960x720@125Hz, 800x600@140Hz
Gateway VX900 CRT: 1600x1200@75Hz, 1200x900@100Hz, 960x720@120Hz (Can be pushed to 175Hz)

He has a great 1440p monitor. What's the point of stepping into a visually less attractive alternative that eats more power/$$?
Also, the 5090 would, allegedly, be as good at 1440p max a decade from now.

I already ordered it, I think it will bottle neck it a bit but hopefully it’s not too bad and still an enjoyable experience.

Yeah i’m thinking of maybe changing when it’s AM6, as AM5 probably is near EOL. I only didn’t know at the time when I got my 5900x AM4 was going to be EOL, so I don’t want to do that again.

I never said anything about that, you should re-read what I wrote.

AM5 is far from EOL lol. What are you on about?

We know that Zen 6 will be AM5 and there is a chance Zen 7 will be on AM5 as well according to decent leaks and rumors.

You might have to wait until 2029 or 2030 to get your AM6 upgrade.

The rumours say 2027, and AMD don’t have the best track record for long term support. They did it with AM4, but there’s nothing to say AM5 will last to 2030. They basically EOL threadripper earlier, cut driver support for some of the earlier RDNA GPUs. There history is okay but they have broken trust more than they kept it.

What percentage of the 5090 cards sold till now had this issue?

YOU TELL ME LOL:

"There is no official, reliable percentage of RTX 5090 connector failures available to the public.".

However: "Reports of melting 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 connectors on the RTX 5090 have continued to surface since its launch, a problem that also affected the previous generation RTX 4090."

I'd say enough to stay away, especially cause Nvidia will likely claim "user error" if something happens. (if it was low Nvidia would likely brag with that too... but.... *crickets*)

That's besides how a terrible value of a card these are... (doubt they'll be even viable 10 years with things are going either tbh)

The direction tells you... the direction

What?
They did it with AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+,

we dont even get Zen6 until 2026, and then we have zen 6x3d after that. We may not even get Zen 7 which would be on a new platform until 2028.
We get all of zen6 and zen6+ to look forward to on AM5.

gen 1 threadripper had all of a dozen buyers.

Driver support for earlier RDNA GPUS have NOT been cut
