Looking at getting either of these cards, right now at MicroCenter the 5070 is $549.99 and comes with new Borderlands game.

Where the 9070 the $599.99 just the card.

To me seems like the value is too good for the 5070 but main concern was the 12GB of VRAM playing in 1440p in the future.

I haven’t even really looked at doing ray tracing as I don’t care that much as looking as best as possible so RT off will not bother me. I think.

If you dont care about raytracing, I'd spend the $50 more for 16GB of VRAM, (And I put my money where my mouth was)

The last thing you want is to hit a VRAM limit on a game in a year or two just because you didnt spend $50 for the same raster performance, so you need to buy a "new gpu" sooner. Ad we all know new gen GPU prices are not going down.

9070 is the marginally faster in raster but you'd have to pay me a great sum of money to forgo Nvidia's surrounding software stack and features. They add value and make Nvidias cards worth all the money to me. If you don't care about proper HDR support or the best in the business upscaling features, AMD is an option.

I wouldn't buy a 5070 though, 5070Ti minimum from a price to performance viewpoint. Really the best option they offer right now.

So you would spend the extra $200 for the 5070ti? The 5070 and 9070 were kinda pushing it budget wise but I could maybe squeeze out the difference if it was worth it long term.

Personally, yes. If longevity in AAA titles at 1440p or above is your concern, for sure.

To me, the top cards to consider at the moment are the 9060 XT 16GB, 5060 Ti 16GB, 5070 Ti, and 5090.

The price range there is huge, but these are the only cards that I could recommend to people in the US without strong caveats.

The 9060 XT 16GB is the cheapest 16GB option. It's the lowest you can go without significant compromise. It's a solid option for under $400.

Since the 5060 Ti 16GB has reached MSRP, it's actually reasonable value in the current market. Since the 9060 XT 16GB is over MSRP, spending the extra $60 to get Nvidia's features makes sense if you can stretch the budget.

The 5070 Ti is the cheapest card that can do it all. You get 16GB, strong performance even for some 4K gaming, and Nvidia features.

And the 5090 is just the best by a wide margin, so if money is truly no problem, you can "just buy it," and enjoy the best possible gaming experience.

The problem with the 5070 is that 12GB buffer that you're spending $550 on. If the card were $400 or less, it would be fine to make that sacrifice, but you're spending a lot of money to risk performance issues in a few years.

The problem with the 9070 series is that they're currently overpriced. The 9070 XT at $600 would be the best option in the whole market for anyone who could afford it, but it's $700, which is way too close to the 5070 Ti. And the 9070 at $600 is not offering enough of a performance bump in today's games over the cheaper 5070 to be an easy recommendation. It really can be no more expensive than the 5070 to make sense, and even then, losing out on DLSS stings. Ideally, it would be a $500 card. $525 max.

If you can wait, 9070 series pricing has been slowly improving, and the Super refresh is expected as early as December, which should fix the VRAM issues for Nvidia. But if you can't wait, and can stretch the budget, I think the 5070 Ti at $750 is worth the premium.

If you have to pick between the 5070 and the 9070. It's tough. I would probably go with the 9070 if I had to pick, but I don't think the 5070 would be unreasonable.

Yeah, the $500-$700 range is the worst price range of the entire current GPU lineup. The 5070 doesn't have enough VRAM to be trusted to age well, and the 9070 (and honestly to an extent the 9070 XT) aren't good enough at ray tracing to be trusted to age well, as well as lacking the Nvidia features. And as YoungBlade noted the 9070 XT is too close in price to the 5070 ti to be worth it anyway.

Either spend less and get a card that's good enough "for now" with the 9060 XT 16GB or 5060 ti 16GB, or get the 5070 ti.

If the 5070 has 8GB of VRAM i would agree with the comments, but considering it has 12GB.  12GB vs 16GB is a alot different then 8 vs 16..

If it were me and I needed a card today I would pick the 5070 over the 9070 for the RT performance, DLSS and it is cheaper.
