Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing issues after I updated my BIOS to the latest version. After that, booting into windows became impossible. It either freezes while on the ASUS screen or it tries to launch repair mode and it freezes then. I've tried to use a USB with a WIN11 installer, but it freezes before it could boot into that aswell. I placed my SSD into a new system and it works perfectly fine, windows boots without any issue. Im looking for suggestions.

System Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500

  • GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon Rx 6500 XT

  • RAM: 2x8GB @ 2666 MT/s

  • Motherboard: Asus B450M-A II

  • OS: Windows 11

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • Clear CMOS battery

  • Installing newer and older versions of BIOS via flashback (4401, 4641,3211,4204)

  • Reseating both RAM modules

Updating the BIOS will generally wipe your BIOS settings anyways. You may have to restore settings to get Windows to boot correctly.

You didn't do anything funky like disable secure boot and do the work around to install Windows 11 did you? As secure boot is enabled by default on most all BIOS now.

Have you tried to boot a live distro of Linux from a USB (I typically recommend Linux Mint), this is another way to verify the hardware works. You could also run hardware tests in Linux.
