It isn't "awful", it is actually really good. I use it for a lot of games and it works fine for me. However, there are games that won't work for it.

Its awful.

 

What are you trying to run? Why not just use Windows and install Cygwin?

I would use it to play games.  I use Windows 7 right now is that I'm used to it, it plays my games, and it's reliable. I wanted to see how well it works because I might put linux on another machine I have.

it usually works when you're testing a random program just for the sake of it

when you really need to run a program, it just won't work

That has been my experience as well... I got office working on it just fine, but when you actually wanna use it, it doesn't work. You're much better off finding an alternative linux program for what you need to do.
