Hi guys my PC died 2 weeks ago due to a PSU that was 11 years old that my brother put in my AM4 PC build he built me back in 2020. My AM4 motherboard is fried. My brother is wanting me to just get a new AM4 motherboard to test my CPU, but I'm taking a chance if the PSU fried it too. Should I just upgrade to the AM5 platform instead of taking a chance on if my 5600x CPU is still fine and not toast? What would be y'all's thoughts and advice. Any help would be much appreciated.

CPUs rarely fry.

If you're concerned about the PSU in any way, don't use it.  Not worth the risk.

I won't advise either way, as getting an am4 board just to test with is fraudulent if you just return it.

AM5 is wallet based, so if you have the scratch... Get it.

We're PSU is fried we're I saw white smoke just billowing out of it I'm thinking my best bet is to get on the AM5 platform we're my CPU was attached to the am4 motherboard when my PSU went up in smoke because we're the CPU power connection for motherboard was connected for the CPU to get power it's probably more then likely the CPU died along with the motherboard because getting a new AM4 motherboard I'm just taking a chance at that point if the CPU is toast or not.

That depends entirely on the market platform's rules. Amazon allows returns for basically any reason.

Not here to argue about ethics, just stating the facts. It's not technically fraudulent in most cases.

Sure, they allow it.  I'm talking intent.

If you buy something, just to check something and return the item... I would prefer you didn't.

Can doesn't mean you should.

That's all, no big deal in the grand scheme.
