Hello,

I recently upgraded my pc components and bought a 3080 suprim along with a new cpu cooler and a better psu.
My current components are:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X with ID-COOLING FX240 PRO Liquid AIO Cooler
RAM: 4x 8gb Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz
GPU: RTX 3080 Suprim
Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX
PSU: GameMax RGB 850W Pro Modular 80 Plus Gold

My old components were:
CPU: Same with stock cooler
RAM: Same
GPU: GTX 1080 Ti
Motherboard: Same
PSU: Aerocool 750W 80 Plus Bronze

My issue happens when I am playing a game with high settings that I should be able to run. For example, Dark Souls III on high graphics settings would cause my monitors to disconnect and my GPU to maximise it's fans. Any inputs like my keyboard or mouse don't work and I'm forced to shut off my PC from the power button. I'm forced to play most games with lower graphics at a maximum of 144 fps (not sure if I can get higher and not cause an issue) without any shut downs. Some games still cause this problem even with the lowest graphics. There are no issues in turning the PC on after.

I've tried one solution after researching a little which was use ddu and reinstall graphics drivers manually but that did not help. I also set up a custom curve using MSI Afterburner but that didn't help either. I tracked my temperatures for my CPU and GPU before the problem occurred and they seem normal to me, 65 C for my GPU in a game, 75 C for my CPU in a game. My airflow isn't the greatest but I don't think the issue is to do with temperatures.

I don't believe that any of my components are overclocked at all. I bought my GPU from a trusted seller opened but never used and they claim to have not seen any issues before shipping. I'm thinking there is a problem with the PSU but I'm not sure what to do. Should I test this with my old PSU since I was told that 750W should be enough for the GPU?

Please let me know anything that you could think of, and if possible what my curve on MSI Afterburner should be because I don't think I did that right.

Thanks in advance.
Wish you all the best.

The problem could definitely be PSU related and the GameMax PSU is absolute E:Waste at best, it might not be able to handle the 3080's transient spikes.

You can try with your old PSU but Aerocool PSU's are also incredibly poor..

Take two sticks of RAM out and leave two in the motherboard and try gaming again

I will try with my old and reply with my results.
Also if possible could you please provide the full sheet of the screenshot that you attached, it would really be nice to have. If not, could you recommend any other PSU that would be suitable for me?

Okay!  Keep me updated 🙂

Of course I can.  Its the new updated PSU Tierlist.  I will give you 3 links, one is for the about section, one is the tiers and one is the full list.

you can cycle through them at the bottom as well.

Why did u even change out the psu 750w should be fine with a 5800x and a 3080 850w should be more then enough for ur current setup even if its pretty low quality could u maybe try to downclock the gpu and see if stabilty improves ( dont know if u tryed since costum curve sounded like fancurve to me 😄 )

I swapped to a 850w since I wanted components to somewhat future-proof and because I thought since it was gold it would be better overall.
If you could possibly send me a video or tutorial on how to underclock my GPU since I'm not sure if it's the same as what I've already attempted. I set a custom voltage/frequency curve on MSI Afterburner which led to no difference.

Thanks

Underclocking or Undervolting is just lower the voltagein MSI afterburner or similar program.

At some point its going to hurt the overall performance.

Even if its not the problem, change out that GameMax PSU if you can.. I wouldn't even plug it into the wall at my house.

Skeeetchy.

I see. I did not get to testing the other power supply yet but I'm certain that I will buy a different PSU no matter the outcome. I've looked for a moderately higher rating on the list you sent (thank you so much for it), and I'm thinking about the Gigabyte UD850GM (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BWGFPJVC?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1). If you could check it with the list and verify that it would not be an issue for me. If it's not too much to ask, could you recommend me something with a similar price that would be okay for my PC?

The Gigabyte UD850GM is an alright PSU!

The MSI A850GL is also an option within that price range.

The Corsair RM850e is also a solid option but a bit higher in price.

All 3 will handle your system without issues and is a massive upgrade over the GameMax you currently have.

All the 3 PSU's above I would trust in my own system, personally leaning towards the Gigabyte and Corsair model.

Okay thanks a lot. I will check out the other two and let you know which one I'm settling with.

Keep me updated 🙂

We have had quite a few people in here that had system crashes due to NOX and GameMax PSU's.

One person had a NOX Power supply ( Absolute garbage Tier ) And he only got 50% power to the GPU.. The PSU just couldn't deliver enough power even if it had enough wattage.

Changing to a good PSU fixed all issues.

I've concluded that I will be choosing the Gigabyte UD850GM since it is the cheaper option with similar specifications to the others. Thanks a lot for helping though. I'll keep you updated when I receive, install, and test the PSU. 😁

Roger!  Keep me updated.

Remember to not use ANY of the old GameMax cables with the new PSU.

All the new cables HAS to come from the Gigabyte PSU or from the case itself.

Before u do that could u try the old gpu with the same psu / and the other way around old psu with new gpu i am just not 100% convinced its a psu isssu especially since ur gpu also was bought used a 1080 ti only uses like 50w less then a 3080 so the power draw isnt that different

I tested with my old psu and the one that I just bought and the issue still persists. The gpu was bought opened never used. I now do not know what could be causing this. Maybe the gpu was used before while the listing said never used.

Apologies for the late reply since I was not home for a few days.

Nah its the gpu 2 psus that work with your 1080 ti not working with ur new 3080 when they have almost the same power draw makes that pretty clear in my opinion
