Over a decade ago, my mother bought an Epson WF-7510 printer/scanner because it met her specific requirements, and it was in her budget (then costing around US$300).  For the past several years, we've been trying to talk her into replacing the thing, as it's been giving her several problems (for example, it won't print filled-in PDF forms, and you have to use "highest quality" print setting or it won't print at all, and it doesn't seem to accurately know how much ink it has in it (sometimes reporting being empty when it's full, or full when its empty, etc.), but she insisted that she couldn't replace this printer because it has special features that she cannot get elsewhere.

Today, that printer died.  You can still buy a new version of it from Amazon, but it costs over $1000.  Uh... yeah, no.  Not for a printer.

So I am looking for recommendations on printers that might match her essential requirements:
"Large Format" capable (13"x19", so not true large format, but larger than standard a4/9x11)

Color

Can print on either paper or fabric.

Under US$400

(Optional) Photo-printing capability.

(and, knowing her, something that might survive the decade it takes to talk her into replacing it)

Can't recommend a particular printer, but I've had reasonable to good experiences with HP and Brother products. Be it not on fabric, just paper.

Epson ET-8550. It's $250 over your budget, but its also an EcoTank printer, so you're gonna save that in ink if you print with any frequency.

I requisitioned this printer for my Office. We have to print construction drawings for some of our field inspectors. We have printed about 500 pages of 13"x19" sheets so far. At our current rate, we should be getting about 2,000+ pages of 13"x19" per ink bottle. Each ink bottle is like $22 USD. This thing is an awesome printer.

I'd love it if we could do that, but unfortunately I think the budget is pretty firm.  Since I have yet to find a printer that's a 100% match to her requirements, though, I'll put it on the short-list, nonetheless....
