Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question, right now for my build I am planning on getting A corsair Dominator Platinum 8 GB kit, then in the future I was planning on getting a 16 GB and obviously have them the same speed, but my question is, will that work? I don't have a problem tinkering with settings to make it.

Yes I know some you (most of you) will tell me to get a 16 gig to start with, but I just have the money to do that right now

Theoretically I think it would work but I just haven't seen that.

I'll be using a Intel 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Formula

Kind Regards

Utkarsh Anand

If you buy a single 8 GB stick you can add another 8GB later instead of getting a many sticks. Also the less sticks you have the more stable an overclock can be on the RAM. If you do what I said you can at least have the sticks run in dual channel mode once you get the money for the second stick.

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

8 GB is plenty for pretty much everything right now. If you really need the extra RAM, you can upgrade, just make sure to get the same kit and it will work flawlessly. You will also most likeley be okay with Dominator platinums, that are rated at different speeds than you first kit, without tinkering.

who cares...

I won't be gaming mainly on this system tho, it'll be used for video editing work and Photo editing and gaming

But will getting a 8GB and then adding a 16GB kit with the 8GB work?

Btw I Love Your Profile Picture xD

Thanks. :P

I don't know enough about extreme series of motherboards, sorry. So if you get a 8 GB kit (2x4GB) it will work in dual channel mode. The kit that you're buying later on should consist of 4 GB sticks aswell, so 4x4 GB. I fi am not mistaken, you will then have two sticks in dual channel mode and four sticks ind quad channel mode.

Adding a 2x8GB kit will probably work too but mixing and matching RAM can result in lower performance that what your RAM would be capable of.

who cares...

Why do people always just assume they psychically know what a PC is going to be used for and give god-awful advice because there's a really good chance they're wrong? >_<

I should be more clear, I'll be getting 2 x 4 GB sticks and in the Future 2 x 8 GB stick so in total I will have 24 GB

It will work, if you put the kits in the corresponding channels. Look up your Motherboards manual for which ones are recommended for dual channel use and plug them in accordingly.
