im planning a gpu upgrade, as i somwhat recently(a bit less than a year ago) upgraded almost my entire system, and the only spec that i didn't upgrade was the graphics card, as the 50 series was about to release and there wasn't any upgrade that felt worth it without doubling the price of the upgrade. now that the 50 series has sat for a little while(even if the market is absolutely wrecked, especially living in the US), and more cards are out, i'm planning to (if i can get my hands on one at msrp) upgrade to either a 5070-5070ti. my questions are as follows tho

1) is the 5070ti worth it over the 5070? from my research it seems like it's a decent performance jump, but its also a more-than-decent price jump, going from about $700-$750 for a 5070(from what i've found) to at least $1k for the ti version

2) is there any point to using my old graphics card? My current(soon to be old) card is a evga rtx 3070 ftw3 ultra, and im probably gonna keep it instead of selling it, as it feels special since evga doesn't make cards anymore. my question is though, is there any point to running 2 graphics cards? would it help performance in games to put my side monitors on the secondary card, or do much for video editing in davinci resolve? or is it too unstable or power-hungry to be worth it?

other info to help:

- current system/setup:

> desktop, not laptop

> ryzen 7 9800x3d

> 32gb 6000mhz cl30

> evga rtx 3070 ftw3 ultra gaming

> 3gb total of nvme m.2 ssd (1tb fast boot and app drive, 2tb slower and larger things, games, video files, etc)

> nzxt c850w psu

> 3 monitors, main game monitor– 24in 1080p 360hz, secondary media monitor– 27in 1440p 120hz, misc vertical monitor– 24in 1080p 75hz,

- system uses

> games mainly, both old(usually emulated, most aren't on steam) and newer, both competitive(fn, cs, marvel rivals, mc, etc) and storymode singleplayer(elden ring, god of war, etc)

> video editing, in divinci resolve, nothing too intense but generally long amounts of footage

> some slight coding and website management

> general computer use(at home use, since it's a desktop

Are you set on Nvidia for the gpu? the 9070 xt is a strong contender to the 5070 ti in performance. I don't think it will be worth it to have the 3070 as a second gpu in your system, but I would still keep it because one its EVGA and second its good to have a back up.

noted for keeping it as a second gpu.

im not against amd, i just feel very uninformed on them even after trying to research. both brands have so many little features it feels like that i can't tell what ill lose or gain, or if each brand has a counterpart to each others advantages. I use nvenc for a lot of recording and editing things, so that is important, but if amd has a counterpart thats decent enough, im not apposed to switching, i just feel very lost trying to decide

5070Ti is supposed to cost 750$, but not sure if it ever is going to fall to that price thanks to tariffs.

I'm pretty sure AMD has some kind of "AMD-nvenc" too.

Honestly, as far as I read your post, I see no reason for GPU upgrade other than having enough $ to buy certain options faster than 3070.

I recently see this a lot (and ik why...) people going "oh or I just keep using my old GPU with the new 5xxx..." Yeah sure, great idea, except it won't work on like 99% of systems... Did you see how large these cards are,  ATX is definitely too small, no way you're gonna fit 2 2.5+ slot cards xD

Would work with LP cards tho ... 😉
