Hello! Millennial here. First PC build was in 2002 Pentium 4. First every PC was a Packard Bell Pentium 166MHZ. Have owned a few PC's (prebuilt) but have not built in a long time. Been watching LTT, Austin for a number of years & always liked the idea of the "sleeper PC" When my dear Mothers Lenovo needed replaced, I had the idea to finally work on my idea. This is the mobo I have on order from Newegg https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b760m-ds3h-ddr4-micro-atx-intel-b760-lga-1700/p/N82E16813145426?Item=N82E16813145426&_gl=1*1p31c6y*_gcl_au*MTkzMDAzMTQ0MC4xNzM1NTYzODE2*_ga*Nzc5MjM0ODkxLjE3MzU1NjM4MTc.*_ga_TR46GG8HLR*MTczODcyNjY5Mi4xMy4xLjE3Mzg3MzQ2NjguMC4wLjk2MTg0ODU4Mg..

After taking the case apart, removing the i/o shield. I have some concerns about this mobo fitting. I do not know if the MATX mounting holes are going to line up and I'm worried about the board touching something metal and killing itself. Any suggestions on what I should do or be looking for?

using the hole spacing and 4 expansion slots as a rough guide, it definitely looks like the mATX will fit just fine

all of the mounting spots are elevated so it doesn't really look like that's possible. On top of the fact that motherboards are laminated on their outer layer, they don't have traces along their edges which would cause a short against something like the side of the case.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Looks like it'll be close but probably will fit.  Wouldn't be worried about the board's back touching.

If you get a larger PSU you might need to cut some of the CD player mount out.  Also attaching fans in the front to give some airflow might be a good idea.

Looks like an mATX board should fit. I built something similar 5 years ago with a Ryzen 5 2600X. It will get a bit toasty in that case, so a few fans as suggested is a good idea, maybe a small tower cooler to help with CPU temps. I'll link my build just incase you want some ideas.

thanks for linking. the front grill does not look like a 80mm fan would fit. Can you tell from photo what size you think would fit?

The more air flow, the better. I would go with a 90-92mm or 120mm fan. You definitely can fit at least a 90-92mm fan in the front, but you may need to drill somes holes for the mounting screws and might need to use spacers, but do whatever is easiest and gives you the best air flow possible. It's going to take some work, but the end result could be worth it.
