If it doesn't work with drivers straight from Nvidia, then it's probably not a "real" desktop GTX 1080 chip in there. Those "fake" cards are usually run with sketchy drivers that have been patched or modified to work with whatever chip is actually in there.

Does your friend still have the drivers it came with, or a downloaded copy of the drivers they installed?

Moved to Graphics Cards.

Video card drivers are not specific to the board partner. You can download the latest driver for the GTX 1080 from Nvidia's website.

I've never heard of Vioco. It might be a fake GPU, which could explain why the drivers don't work. Check with GPU-Z what the card reports as.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

He does not have as it was long time ago. Gpu z reported that card as gtx1080 though

All GTX 1080 are meant to run on Nvidia's standard drivers. You are not restricted from using the standard driver no matter which company makes a graphics card that uses Nvidia GPU

If the standard drivers do not work, then its not a real GTX 1080

It could be a mobile GTX 1080. Try the driver package for that card.

Probably need a standard warning as such as  : Be careful when installing unknown driver from questionable source ??

Never dealt with it so idk

I meant Nvidia's driver for the mobile GTX 1080, but yeah you have a point. "Patched" drivers from third parties are not trustworthy.

O yea, i know you meant that.
Just thought OP might need to be reminded / taught about such thing.

Op you need modified drivers as this is a UNOFFICIAL gtx 1080 MOBILE. It is using a gtx 1080 MOBILE core on a desktop sized card and these were often used to scam people. This is NOT a gtx 1080 and will only work with modified drivers as it's for all intents and purposes posing as a FAKE gtx 1080.

These were a lesser known scam around the mid life cycle of the rtx2000 cards.

@NeedfuldoerFor some more info these were posing as older zotac design cards from when zotac used orange fans. Using a close knockoff of the zotac 780 AMP gpu's cooler if not an exact copy. You could also find these with gray fans and green leds under the voodoo brand.

Then there were also the ones using Manli's older coolers and branding themselves as jungle.

Found the answers after digging some chinese web. The gpu that i got is gtx1080 that has been modified (Kho) written on chip die. Seems sort of engineering sample and mining chips? Manage to install nvidia driver 377.xx because there is no driver signature check on that version. Will try to do some game testing and benchmarks.
