Get an xbox controller + rechargeable bat pack. These controllers last, are SUPER easy to find used, battery when it is dead and needs actual replacement is super easy to do and these are about as plug and play as it gets

I'd just recommend an Xbox controller

They'll work perfect cause they're made by the people who make Windows and you can plug into USB C or get a rechargeable battery pack if you want

The first party Xbox controllers are fine but they don't have anti-drift Hall effect sticks or back buttons, unlike many of the third-party controllers. (I realize that the advantage of Hall effect sticks might be outweighed by other quality issues, so you may feel differently about that particular feature, but the back buttons are just a huge deal for me, because they allow for more simultaneous inputs which is HUGE in certain games.)

Third party controllers should basically always Just Work on PC so long as they are capable of supporting Xinput, which they basically all are, so that the PC will just see it as an Xbox controller.

@manueljames I don't know anything about the reliability of either of those controllers that you listed but in terms of features, between the two I would pick the Gamesir one because of the back button layout. Regular back paddle-style buttons like that are a lot more useful than the weird "L4" and "R4" buttons on the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C.

Yeah for me I don't need extra buttons. I prefer a nice reliable controller

Eh, in my experience third party controllers are usually as reliable as first party controllers so long as you buy from a well-known brand with a good reputation like 8bitdo, though I'd probably want to see a review for the model in question before I purchased.

In my life I've had first-party controllers fail on me at about the same rate as third-party controllers.
